China: Human Rights Violators Resort to Human Rights Lawyers to Defend Them
(Minghui.org) Recent changes in China's political climate have left many in China's judicial system scurrying for help to keep them in the clear.
Ironically, those who have been involved in persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners are now turning to the very lawyers who defended the persecuted practitioners to defend themselves.
One particular human rights lawyer says that this is not a recent phenomenon. Those who work in the Chinese judicial system, as well as Communist Party officials and former police officers, have come to him for help.
The communist regime has a tradition of “burning its bridges,” the result being that those who have served the regime but are no longer of any use are often abandoned, and used as scapegoats.
From being the oppressor to being oppressed, many officials and retired police officers are now looking for ways to protect themselves.
When they were in power, they actively persecuted Falun Dafa practitioners. They threatened, obstructed, stalked, and beat practitioners, and even detained the lawyers who defended them.
For example, Wang Yaluo, a recently-arrested warden from Liming Prison in Heilongjiang Province, once yelled at a human rights lawyer who was defending a practitioner, “Are you aware of the nature of Falun Dafa cases? They are enemies of the state. They are class enemies! You ought to know which party you side with!” He even badgered the Justice Department in Beijing to exert pressure on this lawyer.
These persecutors turned a deaf ear when practitioners tried to persuade them not to participate in the persecution. Facing what now seems to be their due retribution, their first reaction is to hire the lawyers who defended the Falun Dafa practitioners.
When asked if he had accepted them as clients, the lawyer shrugged and said, “It's a lawyer's duty to provide legal consul and provide a defense for one's client. These oppressors, however, have been the cause of so much injustice done to Falun Dafa practitioners. I haven't the time to help them...”
Those who continue to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners should bear in mind the karmic principle that "what goes around comes around."
