Ms. Lu was taken to the Baoding Detention Center in Hebei Province and has been detained there since February 26, 2014. She was only allowed to have one family member visit her.
Years of Persecution
Ms. Lu Guifen, in her 60s, is a farmer from Xingzhuangtao Village, Wangsun Township in Laishui County of Hebei Province. Because her husband died when he was young, Ms. Lu has to take care of her land even though she's in her 60s. She also helps her children on their land and does household chores. She is easy going, well liked, straightforward and very kind.
Ms. Lu has been detained by the county government at least twelve times just because she practices Falun Gong. Her home was frequently searched, and her land was occupied by others. The county officials took her new motorcycle, valued at 6,000 yuan, and have been riding it around. Her children’s business was robbed by county officials. The family is constantly worried about her safety.
Ms. Lu was taken to the Laishui County Detention Center in May 2003 where she was detained for about a year before she was transferred to the Baoding City Forced Labor Camp. The camp officials refused to admit her due to her poor physical condition from long-term detention.
While Ms. Lu was held at the County Detention Center, she developed symptoms of vomiting, dizziness and had difficulty eating. Laishui police extorted 5,000 yuan from her family in order to release her.
During the years of persecution, Ms. Lu was once sent to the Baoding Brainwashing Center. Even though she was released, the persecution continued. She was frequently harassed and her home searched.
