12 Benxi Falun Gong Practitioners Still in Detention Center after 11 Months

(Minghui.org) Twelve Falun Gong practitioners who were arrested 11 months ago are still being held in the Benxi Detention Center. Their families have made multiple requests to the police department, the procuratorate, and the court to visit the practitioners but to no avail.

Officials brought false charges against the 12 practitioners on April 25, 2013. The police had ransacked their homes and fabricated evidence, the procurators compromised the law for personal gain and held the practitioners for an extended period, and the judge planned an illegal trial.

Those involved were Chen Jinbao (chief of the Domestic Security Division of the Benxi Police Department), Lu Gang (chief of the Domestic Security Division of the Mingshan Branch Police Department), Jin Xin (procurator of the Mingshan District Procuratorate), and Ji Yunqin (judge of the Mingshan District Court)

According to incomplete statistics, 15 Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death in Benxi since July 20, 1999. Five were persecuted until they became mentally unstable; 97 have been sentenced to terms ranging from 3 to 13 years; 207 have been held in forced labor camps to from four months to three and half years; 122 have been held in detention centers from 7 to 38 days; and 113 were arrested and held in police stations, the longest for ten months. Some practitioners were held in brainwashing centers for 18 to 30 days. Countless practitioners had money extorted from them, lost their jobs, and had their homes ransacked. Personal financial loss ranged from a few hundred to hundreds of thousands of yuan.
