(Minghui.org) A 61-year-old woman from Dandong City, Liaoning Province was arrested this September after she gave a DVD of Shen Yun Performing Arts to a police officer. Her home was ransacked on the same day, and she was tried one month later.
Ms. Xin Guiqing (辛桂琴)'s lawyer offered a rebuttal to the charge against her - “using a cult to sabotage law enforcement.” Judge Ma Shuhe of Yuanbao District Court immediately stopped him when he pointed out that there is no law designating Falun Gong as a cult.
Ma threatened the lawyer, “Did you forget what we agreed on yesterday when you came in to review her case? We decided to never touch this topic. Do you want to be removed from the courtroom?”
The lawyer was not deterred, and pointed out that Shen Yun shows draw inspiration from Falun Gong and promote traditional Chinese culture. He affirmed that it is his client's constitutional right to promote Shen Yun shows, and to tell people how the Chinese Communist Party is destroying traditional Chinese culture and persecuting Falun Gong, a peaceful self-cultivation system.
More than twenty people observed the trial, including a police officer who professed that he hadn't known about Falun Gong's innocence prior to that day.
The trial on November 19 lasted for more than an hour, but the public prosecutor failed to produce any valid evidence against Ms. Xin. The court adjourned without a verdict.
Xu Shengli from Xindong Police Station in Dandong City was the one who took the DVD from Ms. Xin and went on to arrest her.
