(Minghui.org) Recently, Anshan City officials in Liaoning Province attempted to try a practitioner despite her life-threatening condition. Under the stress of the trial, Ms. Xing Dan suffered a heart attack and two seizures within an hour.
Sadly, this type of occurrence is not that uncommon in China today. Over the course of the persecution of Falun Gong, officials often detain and put practitioners on illegal trial – even if they are in critical condition.
Arrested and Home Ransacked
Ms. Xing Dan (刑丹), a high school English teacher, was arrested at home on July 21, 2014, and her home was ransacked. She was held at the Anshan Women's Detention Center for several months before her scheduled trial on November 14, 2014 at the Tiedong District Court.
Emergency Treatment Required
Ms. Xing's family waited at the courthouse on the day of the trial. At 9:30 a.m. the prison van arrived and Ms. Xing's mother noticed something was wrong—three women guards were carrying her daughter by the arms and dragging her towards to the court room. Ms. Xing seemed very weak and was unable to walk, her legs dragging uselessly.
“What's wrong with your legs?! Why can't you walk?” Ms. Xing's mother cried out. She tried to get closer, but several guards immediately stopped her. She could only stand there and watch, weeping helplessly.
Guards carried Ms. Xing Dan, a high school English teacher, out of a police van and dragged her into the courtroom.
Ms. Xing's parents, husband, and in-laws waited and waited for the trial to begin. Half an hour passed, but they still did not see any sign that the trial was starting. When they asked what was going on, an officer said that the prosecutor had not arrived.
Then someone noticed an emergency vehicle parked by the courthouse. When asked what had happened, an officer said Ms. Xing had a heart attack with two seizures within the hour and was now being given emergency treatment.
An ambulance showed up to administer emergency treatment after Ms. Xing suffered a heart attack.
Anxious and very worried, Ms. Xing's family continued to wait. They again asked about her condition and were told that as soon as she was breathing normally, the guards would take her back to the prison. Judge Huang Jin announced that the trial was canceled and another trial would not be scheduled.
Ms. Xing's husband rushed out, chasing the police van carrying his wife until it disappeared. He was in tears, as were many other people at the scene.
“She [Ms. Xing] is a good person. The practice of Falun Gong made her healthier and happier. She did well in teaching and often spent her spare time helping students—everyone likes her,” her mother said. “But now she cannot teach anymore.”
