Why Practitioners Shouldn't Watch Everyday People’s Programming
(Minghui.org) I'm a young woman who is usually healthy, and I don't have much sickness karma. But recently, I had first a stuffy, then runny nose, and a bad cough that lasted for several days.
When I began to look within myself, I realized that it was because I had spent a lot of time watching TV recently. I sometimes walked in on my parents watching TV, and became immersed in the shows. Though I knew this wasn't right, it was hard getting myself to stop, and I ended up wasting a lot of time watching TV.
Master said in “Fa Teaching on World Falun Dafa Day:”
“Since you are here among humans, what your eyes have seen and ears have heard include terribly filthy things from society. Do you know what it means to 'have heard' or 'have seen' something? It’s not what people think, where after you’ve viewed something, it’s over with if you didn’t take it with you; or when you’ve heard something but didn’t pursue it further, it doesn't matter. That’s not the case. All things are material. When you have heard something, it has been infused into you, and it enters your body. When you have seen something, it has entered. Do you know why some cultivators in the past made themselves blind or deaf? They understood this. They wanted nothing other than cultivation, and did not want to be polluted any further. And so they did that. Of course, those are the methods of lesser practices. I’m just getting at the idea.”
One night, I found a movie about a fox who could take on a human form and interact with people. I knew it was about low-level spirits and contained some bad messages, but I just couldn’t control my curiosity.
While I was watching the movie, I felt very cold, and was sometimes even shaking. The next day I had the symptoms of a common cold. My head was heavy, and I couldn’t concentrate when I sent forth righteous thoughts.
Thinking back, those movies and TV programs had sent bad things into my field–especially the shows which had sex and violence. Watching them let more of the bad things into my body and made cultivation more difficult.
Master has warned us not to take in the bad things:
“Don’t we practitioners want to purify our bodies? We should constantly purify our bodies and constantly progress toward high levels. Yet you still put that in your body, so aren’t you going the opposite way from us?” (Lecture Seven, “The Issue of Eating Meat,” Zhuan Falun)
Cultivation is a very serious matter. Though no one is monitoring us in the human dimension, there are still a lot of eyes watching us in other dimensions. When we have incorrect thoughts or actions, the evil will take advantage of them. It will expand and strengthen our attachments, causing us to waste time and energy.
If we don’t meet the Fa’s requirements when that happens, even Master may not help much, as He told us before, “It is a principle of this universe that nobody should interfere with what you pursue.” (Lecture One, “Characteristics of Falun Dafa,” Zhuan Falun)
Moreover, there is no time for us to waste. Things are wrapping up as we speak.
I had a dream a few days ago. In my dream, Master had led Dafa disciples into the final battle with the evil. It was quite a solemn and somber scene. Though the evil lives were largely destroyed, we also lost many Dafa disciples. However, many Dafa disciples managed to break through the evil’s front to join Master. Looking at the disciples on the field, Master said solemnly, “Let’s end everything now!”
When I woke up, I said to myself, “I can’t be this lax any more. I need to be more diligent. I can’t keep wasting Master's magnanimous grace and the enormous hope that sentient beings have placed upon me!”
I have observed some fellow practitioners around me being lax, too. They pursue human sentiments, interests, and pleasures. Some spend time on online dating sites to kill loneliness, and others busily prepare for an easy life after retirement.
Fellow practitioners, let’s all be diligent, and become the true gold left at the bottom of the pan–not the sand that is sifted out.
