(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhu Hefei was arrested at her home around July 5, 2013, by officers from Nanjing City 610 Office, Nanjing Police Department, Nanjing Domestic Security Division, Gulou District Police Department in Nanjing, Gulou 610 Office, Jiangning District Police Department and Jiangning 610 Office.

Officers ransacked Ms. Zhu's home and confiscated two computers, two notebooks, Falun Gong books and other personal belongings. Ms. Zhu was being held in the Nanjing City Detention Center, but it is not known if she has been released.

Ms. Zhu, in her 60's, was a former official at the Jiangsu Institute of Education and is known to be knowledgeable, generous and easy-going. She heard about Falun Gong in 1996 from a friend and began to practice soon after. By living by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in her daily life she has become a better person and considers others first before doing or saying anything. She became healthy and energetic and no longer suffers from her long-term illnesses, including insomnia, migraines and cervical problems.

When the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, Ms. Zhu was arrested and has been detained several times for refusing to renounce her belief. She was held in a psychiatric hospital and deprived of sleep for extended periods of time.

Pressure from the authorities

Ms. Zhu's family members felt great pressure from the authorities because she was a Falun Gong practitioner and they were constantly harassed. They were fearful of the police and were forced to report Ms. Zhu to her workplace when she practiced Falun Gong. She admitted to her superiors that she was a practitioner and spoke of the benefits she experienced from practicing.

Officials at Ms. Zhu's workplace immediately began to pressure her and took turns talking to her to try and get her to renounce her belief. She openly talked about Falun Gong during a management meeting and many of the officials there were touched by her sincerity and kindness. She also wrote a letter to persuade them not to participate in the persecution of Falun Gong. However, shortly after the meeting Ms. Zhu was transferred to a lower position.

Held in a mental hospital

Ms. Zhu was arrested by police in April 2000. She was interrogated and later taken to the Nanjing City Detention Center before being transferred to a psychiatric hospital.

Ms. Zhu was tortured and some of the medical staff kept injecting her with drugs that should only be used on mental patients. She felt dizzy, her mouth was dry and she passed out. The next day, she was unable sit up due to severe dizziness and her vision was blurry. However, she still used every opportunity to clarify the facts about Falun Gong to the medical staff there. She was released after much effort from her family and friends.

Arrested many times

Ms. Zhu went to Beijing with other practitioners on October 2000 to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was arrested at Tiananmen Square and taken back to Nanjing, where she was later released. She was arrested again shortly before October 1, 2001, and was held in a detention center, where she was interrogated around the clock for several days. More than a dozen officers took turns to torture her. Despite this, she told them about Falun Gong and let them know how important it is to be kind.

Due to Ms. Zhu's compassion and forbearance, inmates in the detention center learned about Falun Gong, and several of them began to practice as well.

After Ms. Zhu was released, officers from the 610 Office took her to the local police station. They wanted to take her to a brainwashing center, but Ms. Zhu refused to cooperate. They later had to release her.

Repeatedly brainwashed

Ms. Zhu was arrested and taken to a brainwashing center in the Gulou District of Nanjing in July 2002. She was arrested again in May 2005 and was detained in another brainwashing center in the Gulou District. More than a dozen people were assigned to try to get her to renounce her belief. They took turns to torture her around the clock and deprived her of sleep, and she kept telling them about Falun Gong.
