(Minghui.org) Da'an City Court officials abused their power and sentenced practitioners Wang Yan, Ji Hui, and Xiao Yue to prison under orders from the 610 Office, although Article 5 of the Constitution states, “No organization or individual may have the privilege of being above the Constitution and the law.”

Arrests

Wang Yan, Ji Hui and Xiao Yue are residents of Da'an. On January 31, 2013, when they went to the countryside to tell people the facts about Falun Dafa, officers from the Gucheng Town Police Station and the Domestic Security Division, including Chen Yamin, Liu Yuming, and Mu Zijing, arrested them. They were detained in the Da'an Detention Center, Taonan Detention Center, and Tongyu Detention Center. Their families went to the police department several times to request their release, but the director of the Da'an City Police Department said that Wang Dexin, the director of Da'an City 610 Office and the chief of the Da'an City Political and Legal Affairs Committee, had given orders not to release them.

Lawyer kept out of the loop

Their paperwork was sent to the Da'an City Procuratorate on March 6, 2013, and Li Chunbo, Qu Wu, Wu Jiebing, and Li Ping were assigned to work on their case. The practitioners' families hired a lawyer to defend them. On April 7, 2013, their case was transferred to the court, but their defense lawyer was not notified.

Sun Shouhang, chief judge of the Criminal Court, was in charge of their case. Beginning on April 15, Liu Yongbo, deputy director of the Da'an City 610 Office; police officers Sui Yanlong and Mu Zijing; and others went to the detention centers to try to “transform” the practitioners using brainwashing techniques. The practitioners were pressured to write letters to renounce Falun Gong or be sentenced to lifelong imprisonment. They refused to give in.

Family not notified of trial

On April 22, Da'an Court put them on trial without notifying their lawyer or their families. Wang Dexin and Liu Yongbo were there and arranged everything personally. All three practitioners were sentenced.

The lawyer heard on April 25 that the practitioners had been sentenced and went to the detention center to try to see them. Detention center staff refused to allow it, so he went to the courthouse to find judge Sun Shouhang. Sun did not dare to acknowledge himself as Sun Shouhang.

The lawyer also visited the procuratorate petition office but was told to go elsewhere. However, Wang Dexin ordered other agencies to make things difficult for the lawyer, and he was unable to meet with the practitioners.

On April 27, the court announced their sentences: Ji Hui and Xiao Yue were given four years in prison and Wang Yan four and a half years . The practitioners and their families opposed the sentences and wanted to appeal. The lawyer filed the appeal in the intermediate court on May 10.
