(Minghui.org) During the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) 13-year persecution of Falun Dafa, Ms. Zhang Lanping from Hefei City, Anhui Province, has been repeatedly arrested by the 610 Office and local police, illegally detained, and held in forced labor camps. Her husband, Mr. Ji Guangjie, died during these rounds of persecution on June 3, 2012, at the age of 65.

Brutally Beaten by Police at Tiananmen Square

Ms. Zhang, 57, and her husband both practiced Falun Dafa. On July 10, 2000, officers from the Wuhu Road Police Station and the No. 1 Division of the Hefei City Police Department posed as exterminators and tricked Ms. Zhang into opening her door to them. They then arrested her, detained her for 15 days, and took her to a brainwashing center in Yicheng.

After being released from the brainwashing center, Ms. Zhang and her husband went with other practitioners to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Dafa. Ms. Zhang displayed a banner on Tiananmen Square. She was spotted immediately by plainclothes officers, and a few of them rushed up to stopped her. They slammed her onto her back, and the back of her head hit the ground solidly. As blood gushed from her head, her husband rushed over, only to find that she had lost consciousness.

Arrested, Jailed, and Tortured Repeatedly

During the 2001 Chinese New Year, Ms. Zhang was arrested while she was away from her hometown telling people the facts about Falun Dafa. She was then detained at the Anhui Women’s Forced Labor Camp.

On June 10, 2005, she visited practitioner Mr. Ji Guangxiong’s home, and there she was again arrested. She was taken to the brainwashing center at the Anhui Province Prison Guards Academy.

In May 2008, Ms. Zhang was arrested by 610 Office agents again for telling people the facts about Falun Dafa and taken to the Hefei City Detention Center. Two weeks later, she was taken to the Anhui Women’s Forced Labor Camp. She refused to cooperate with the illegal demands of the camp authorities, so guards tied each of her limbs to the posts of a bed and restrained her that way for two weeks straight. The guards also punished other inmates in the cells by depriving them of their allotted periods of rest in order to incite hatred toward the arrested practitioners. Because she persisted in her belief of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and refused to “transform,” the guards ordered other inmates to monitor Ms. Zhang around the clock. Except for the 10 yuan per month allocated to her for basic necessities, Ms. Zhang was forbidden to use any of the money that her family members brought to her.

On November 1, 2008, Ms. Zhang began a hunger strike to protest the persecution. On the fifth day of her strike, the guards force fed her. They clamped her nose and jammed a thick tube into it; the forced feeding caused her stomach to bleed internally.

On November 8, 2009, Ms. Zhang’s 18-month forced labor term was due to end, but the camp extended it for another 2 months. After those 2 months, they again extended it for another 45 days. When her family went to pick her up on the expected final day of her sentence, the No. 2 Division captain Lin Yun said, “The city 610 Office notified us that we cannot let anyone go until someone from their office shows up.”

Ms. Zhang's Husband Died an Unjust Death

Ms. Zhang’s husband, Mr. Ji Guangjie, worked at the Hefei Electrical Equipment Factory in Anhui Province. He began to practice Falun Dafa in 1994. Before cultivating, he suffered from antral gastritis and experienced stomach bleeding that required emergency treatment several times. He was unable to live a normal life. After beginning cultivation he followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to guide his behavior. Not only were his ulcers healed, but his outlook and character also improved.

Mr. Ji Guangjie

After the CCP began its persecution of Falun Dafa, Mr. Ji was persecuted several times and twice detained in forced labor camps. In July 2003, he was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Hefei Baohe District Court. He was then taken to the Anhui No. 3 Prison (Suzhou Prison). His blood pressure rose to over 260 mmHg, and he was in critical condition. The prison officials refused his request to seek outside medical help, and they denied him family visits. It was not until June 2009, when Mr. Ji fainted, suffered from a brain hemorrhage, and lost sight in his left eye, that the prison finally notified his family to come retrieve him.

After Mr. Ji returned home, he was not able to take care of himself, and his family members took turns helping him around the clock. However, over the next three years, the police regularly came to his home to harass him, and his health continued to decline. Mr. Ji finally passed away on June 3, 2012, at the age of 65.

Details of the persecution of Mr. Ji are described in the article “Persecution Account of Mr. Ji Guangjie from Hefei City, Anhui Province Before His Death” http://en.minghui.org/html/articles/2012/8/31/135230.html

Entire Family Separated for 10 Years

During the 13 years of persecution, Ms. Zhang and Mr. Ji were repeatedly arrested and detained in forced labor camps and prisons. During this time, the family was together for only three years. Because the police ransacked their home many times, the couple's child was too frightened to live at home.

While Ms. Zhang and Mr. Ji were being illegally detained, their son, when he was not in school, had to run between the prison and forced labor camps to deliver clothes to his parents. Sometimes the guards didn't even let him visit his parents. During one especially cold winter, he attempted to deliver some blankets and sweaters to his father, but the guards refused to admit him; they also refused to deliver the items to his father. The child was deeply affected by the hardship.
