(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Bu Weiquan, his wife Ms. Yang Lixia, Ms. Huang Yinying, Mr. Zeng Huantao, and others were tried in the Mei County Xincheng Administrative District Courthouse on the morning on January 29, 2013. Court officials worked with the Mei County Procuratorate and Police Department to pre-determine the outcome.

The lawyers from Beijing made a very strong defense for Ms. Huang Yinying’s innocence. The family members, neighbors, and fellow villagers present—over 100 in all—witnessed this battle between righteousness and evil.

This is the first time in the Meizhou area that lawyers have defended Falun Gong practitioners as innocent. Starting at 8:00 a.m. on January 29, people who had heard about the trial started filing into the Mei County courthouse. The Chinese Communist Party officials ordered the court officers to do very strict “security” checks on every single person that entered the building. They would not allow anybody in until their ID was checked and their names registered. About 20 people did not bring their IDs and had to wait outside. There were also many people waiting outside nearby for news.

At 9:00 a.m. the trial began, Judge Wu warned the visitors not to make audio or video recordings. Another judge, Zhang Qiaoling, a “juror” and a court clerk were also present. Mr. Bu Weiquan was tried first. The prosecutor was Yang Meihong. During the proceedings, the police videotaped all the visitors inside the courtroom.

The lawyer defended his client, Huang Yinying, as innocent, having committed no crime. The lawyer began by saying this case was ignoring the Chinese constitution, that Falun Gong is a spiritual belief and not a cult and is therefore protected by the constitutional guarantee of freedom of belief. He also mentioned that the cults listed by the public security department did not include Falun Gong. That practitioners including Huang Yinying have told the world that “Truthfulness, Compassion-Forbearance is good,” “Falun Dafa is good” does not violate any Chinese law.

The lawyer pointed out many loopholes in the prosecutors’ evidence. For example, he questioned the legality of confiscating Falun Gong materials from Bu Weiquan’s computer and said it was not illegal to store Falun Gong materials.

The provincial regulations for electronic evidence were valid, but such evidence had to be assessed by the provincial assessment department. However, the Meizhou local area made the assessment in this case, so the evidence should not have been submitted. The pictures submitted as evidence were not the ones taken at the scene. Instead, these pictures were taken by the police after they forced the practitioners to go to where they hang and post banners and messages. These were successfully deemed invalid as well.

In the face of the lawyers’ valid and persuasive defense, neither the judges nor the prosecutor knew how to respond. Prosecutor Yang Meihong even asked the defense lawyer how to define cults.

Mr. Bu Weiquan, Mr. Zeng Huantao, and Ms. Huang Yinying defended themselves by presenting the facts. Ms. Huang explained that she used to be in very poor health, but by practicing Falun Gong, she has been very healthy. Because of this, she believed that she had to tell people what she experienced firsthand. She had no other agenda. During her detention, Ms. Huang lost consciousness many times. When the trial judge asked Ms. Yang Lixia what she had to say, Ms. Yang said that she could not remember anything since she felt dizzy.

The trial was adjourned at 11:00 a.m., but no verdicts were announced.

After the trial, everyone was talking about what a great job the lawyer did: “It is true that Falun Gong has done nothing wrong and that Dafa practitioners have also done nothing wrong.” “Isn’t it shameful to persecute people who live by Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance?”

Mr. Bu Weiquan, in his 50s, is an excellent project manager for the Hongyi Construction Company of Meizhou City. His wife, Yang Lixia, is a good mother to their two daughters. Ms. Huang Yinying, almost 60, works for the Huaxi Construction Design Company Limited of Meizhou City. She works diligently and is highly respected at work. Mr. Zeng Huantao, about 50, works for the Nanlong Company in Meizhou City.

In the afternoon on November 4, 2012, Mr. Bu, Ms. Yang, Ms. Huang, and Mr. Zeng were illegally arrested in Xingning City, Meizhou. Mr. Bu’s vehicle was confiscated. At around 8:00 p.m., a dozen policemen went to search Mr. Bu’s residence at Xinzhongyuan at Meicheng. The police kicked in and damaged the door on the third floor. They emptied a case and searched everywhere. They took away Dafa books and two computers, a cell phone and cash. Mr. Bu’s two children did not know what to do when their parents were arrested. Meanwhile, over a dozen officers with rifles, accompanied by the neighborhood committee, went to Ms. Huang Yinying’s residence at the Xinzhongyuan and searched her home. They took away her personal belongings including Dafa books and photos of Master Li Hongzhi. Mr. Zeng’s home was searched at the same time. It is unknown how much they took from his home. When his children came home and did not see their father, they found out later that he had been arrested. His wife could not stand the long-term pressure of the CCP, so she asked for a divorce. She is still separated from Mr. Zeng Huantao.

On December 8, 2012, when the Mei County Procuratorate arrested four Falun Gong practitioners, Mr. Bu Weiquan’s family refused to sign the warrant.

Currently, Mr. Bu Weiquan, Ms. Huang Yinying, and Mr. Zeng Huantao might still be in the Fuda Detention Center in Mei County. Ms. Yang Lixia as well could still be in the Meijiang District Qinhuang Detention Center. Ms. Huang's relative got to visit her due to her lawyer’s efforts. Before the trial started, the other Falun Gong practitioners' relatives were not able to see them at all.
