(Minghui.org) The legal system in China is merely a tool used by the Party to maintain its stranglehold on the population. In particular the police, prosecutors, and judges have obeyed the Chinese Communist Party's order to persecute Falun Gong while maintaining they are only “enforcing the laws.” They have arrested, detained, and illegally sentenced innocent Falun Gong practitioners at will.
On the morning of May 27, 2013, Shenyang Intermediate Court re-tried Ms. Niu Guifang and Ms. Qu Lihong and upheld their original sentences.
Both from Hushitai County in the Shenbei New District of Shenyang City, Ms. Niu and Ms. Qu were arrested by Xinchengzi Street Police Station officers on July 19, 2012. The Shenbei New District Court sentenced Ms. Niu to three years in jail and Ms. Qu to three years, with five years probation, on February 27, 2013.
Ms. Niu's family hired two lawyers from Beijing to appeal for her in the Shenyang Intermediate Court.
Ms. Niu gave details of the persecution of Falun Gong and encouraged the intermediate court officials to do what is right. Based on the Constitution and facts, Ms. Niu's lawyers overturned all the allegations against her made by the prosecutors and contended that Falun Gong is protected by the Constitution. Her lawyers commented that “divine beings are watching us. A person shouldn't do anything against his conscience, and he must take responsibility for what he has done.”
Nevertheless, prosecutors Jiang Zhiqiang and Chen Pingping and judges Zhang Haijun, Liu Dayong, and Lou Guanjie disregarded the lawyers' arguments and advice and upheld the original, illegal sentence.
Ms. Niu is still being detained, and the detention center is not allowing her family to see her.
Ms. Qu was called to the Judicial Bureau of Shenbei New District in the end of October 2013. She was told that she would serve her sentence outside the prison. Ma Yan, director of the bureau, required her to come to the bureau once a week and forced her to install a card on her cell phone and carry it with her every day. In fact, the phone is used to monitor her.
