(Minghui.org) Some practitioners are attached to pursuits that they haven't recognized or managed to eliminate – the pursuit of things in their secular lives.

For example, they are happy when they feel physically great, when their lives run smoothly, and when they gain material interests and reputation. They subconsciously wish to gain more secular interests through cultivation. Hiding behind their happiness is a pursuit of secular interests and emotions.

Even worse, some practitioners don't think about saving people. Instead, they think about increasing their virtue by explaining the facts about Falun Gong and helping people to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated organizations, but not through cultivation practice. The thought of gaining secular interests through cultivation is actually a selfish pursuit. Selfishness is a characteristic of the old forces.

These past years, the Jiang Zemin regime has utilized the CCP to slander Dafa. How did it accomplish this? Has every practitioner looked inward to identify his or her own shortcomings?

Master said,

“Question: Can we use things from cultivation to pay off things among ordinary people?

"Teacher: No, you cannot, and I haven’t told you to do that. That is because things from cultivation are priceless. Master takes care of them for the sake of your cultivation, yet you place so little value on them. They are not just what you have cultivated: A part of it is what Master has endured for you and done for you. You shouldn’t even have a thought like that. There is no reason for it.” (“Teaching the Fa at the Western U.S. Fa Conference”)

A cultivating practitioner should eliminate all attachments, including the attachment to life and death. Why would he pursue any secular interests? We shouldn't hold on to any attachment, which could consequently generate additional attachments to comfort, lust, and others. The old forces could then amplify them and create tribulations for us. It's definitely not worth it.
