CCP’s intimidation and interference disclosed

On February 14, before the first show of the Shen Yun New York Company’s debut performance at Tokyo’s International Forum, it was disclosed that the Chinese Embassy in Japan had attempted to interfere with the show. Until February 10, the hosting organization did not get a formal agreement from the theater. All promotion of the show was not permitted.
In mid-2011, a Japanese consortium agreed to host the Shen Yun show in Tokyo. But after the 2012 New Year, the consortium suddenly declared they would stop the show.
Reportedly last October, Liang Chong-wen, chief representative of Ta Kung Pao (a pro-Chinese Communist Party newspaper headquartered in Hong Kong) in Japan, met with the director of the consortium and exerted pressure on him. An official of the Japan Public Security Intelligence Agency disclosed after investigation that Liang Chong-wen is also the chief representative of Wen Wei Po. The CCP generally uses people of its controlled media branch in foreign countries as special agents.
The official of the Japan Public Security Intelligence Agency disclosed that since 2007, at the time of Shen Yun’s first show in Japan, a TV station in Kansai, Japan has been under pressure from the CCP for its support of Shen Yun. The editorial department of the TV station had a meeting about the issue and made the decision to resist the CCP’s interference.
The Chinese Embassy informed Chinese groups not to watch Shen Yun. Otherwise, they would have trouble on returning to China.
Sun-TV in Kansai, Japan has helped to promote Shen Yun since its first show in 2007. In 2008, the CCP Consulate called to intimidate the station but the tactics were refused by Sun-TV. In 2009, the CCP Consulate dispatched an official to the TV station to request that it withdraw support. But Sun-TV held a meeting and denied the Consulate’s unreasonable request. Since staff members of the station watched the Shen Yun show, the TV station has been more determined to support Shen Yun.
The Department of Culture of Hyogo Prefecture indicated that venues for the Shen Yun show were contacted by the Chinese Consulate every year.
Painter: Shen Yun shows essence of Chinese traditional culture
On the afternoon of February 14, 2012, Shen Yun’s debut performance at the International Forum concluded with warm applause from the capacity audience. More than 1,000 people watched the show about genuine Chinese traditional culture and art.
Painter Ms. Meng with her husband, Mr. Tsuchiya, praises Shen Yun saying it represents the essence of Chinese culture.
Artist Ms. Meng had seen Shen Yun before. She said, “I was deeply impressed by Shen Yun when I watched it the first time. This time, I learned that Shen Yun would perform in Tokyo via Broad Book, and I quickly bought two tickets in the front rows.”
“It was perfect in terms of art, technique, and content. It displayed wisdom and strength, and emitted very strong and positive energy. Only if we are as united as Shen Yun can we Chinese people have hope,” Ms. Meng said.
“I appreciate that Shen Yun can inherit and carry forward classical traditional Chinese culture.” She continued, “Otherwise, Chinese traditional culture would be completely lost. Thousands of years of Chinese culture has been severely trampled and ruined by the Chinese Communist Party. In China at present, it’s hard to tell the truth. Whoever tells the truth is likely to be punished. So they can only tell lies. When lies are spoken everywhere, it unfortunately becomes the truth.”
Commenting on the solo vocalists in the performance, Ms. Meng said: “The skill of the tenors and sopranos was superb, and the lyrics represented the concept of questing bitterly in the darkness.”
Ms. Meng’s husband, Mr. Tsuchiya, was a Japanese orphan who grew up in China. He is also a painter. “What I want to say is the performance of Shen Yun is really great. It represents real Chinese culture to foreigners,” Mr. Tsuchiya said. He said that especially in current society, foreigners who don’t understand Chinese culture view the Chinese people as a yellow disaster; whenever any disgraceful thing happens, people will think it is done by the Chinese people. He said that is not real Chinese culture. “The real Chinese tradition strongly emphasizes morality and good deeds. The Chinese people in the past followed a sublime moral standard,” Mr. Tsuchiya said.

Politicians and artists send greetings to welcome Shen Yun
Last year, due to the earthquake and tsunami, Shen Yun cancelled its performances in Japan. On February 14, 2012, several politicians and artists sent greetings to wish Shen Yun a successful performance.
Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara stated in his letter that he was pleased that Shen Yun could perform in Japan. He commended, “High quality information and sublime stage art let the audience experience precious values in tradition and culture.”
Former Prime Minister Kaifu Toshiki welcomed Shen Yun to perform in Nagoya and expressed his appreciation. He wished Shen Yun success.
Hidenao Nakagawa, Member of the Lower House of Representatives, stated that he was fortunate to have an opportunity to watch the show about 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture. He wished the show would bring courage to the Japanese people, including those in the disaster areas.
House Representative Katsumi stated in his letter that he learned that artists of Shen Yun Performing Arts stress education of traditional culture. He thought that only Shen Yun pays attention to connotations of body form to present the highest stage art. He wished Shen Yun success in Japan.
