(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Liao Xiuqiong is a Falun Gong practitioner from Jianshui County, Honghezhou, Yunnan Province. Her family has benefited from her practice of Falun Gong. Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to suppress Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. Liao has been repeatedly subjected to persecution. She was sentenced to forced labor in January 2005. After she was released in January 2007, she continued to be persecuted. Her husband passed way after long periods of time living in fear and worry.
Mr. Li Baoyi was Ms. Liao Xiuqiong's husband. He was paralyzed and lost his ability to work. Ms. Liao had to work in the rice paddies by herself. They were impoverished. In July 1997, Ms. Liao started practicing Falun Gong. She could hardly read at the time, but it did not take long for her to be able to read all of the Falun Gong books. She used to suffer from insomnia and arthritis, but they disappeared when she practiced Falun Gong. She became perfectly healthy.
When her husband saw her transformation, he asked to watch Master Li's Guangzhou lectures. Bedridden, he read Zhuan Falun and other Falun Gong books in bed. Before he could practice Falun Gong, a miracle happened! He could stand up and walk again. In fact, he started working in the paddies again. All of his health problems disappeared as well. Joy and hope returned to their home. When their children witnessed their transformations, they began to support and believe in Falun Gong. When villagers witnessed these miracles, many of them started to practice Falun Gong as well. Ms. Liao used her spare time to visit villagers and tell them about Falun Gong. As a result, many more people started to practice Falun Gong.
Here is a brief summary of the persecution faced by Ms. Liao Xiuqiong and her family:
As soon as the persecution began in July 1999, the police went to her home and told her to stop practicing Falun Gong and stop introducing Falun Gong to other people. The police also made their children keep an eye on the couple and report their activities constantly. Ms. Liao and her family were scared and in constant fear. Their grandchildren had difficulty concentrating in school. In June 2000, the police ransacked their home and arrested Ms. Liao. She was taken to Jianshui County Detention Center and held there for nearly two months.
On January 12, 2005, Ms. Liao went to the Chenguan Police Station to clarify the truth about Falun Gong and ask the police to return the confiscated Falun Gong books, but she ended up being arrested and held in a jail cell for a week, then sentenced to three years in Dabanqiao Women's Forced Labor Camp in Kunming, Yunnan Province. Because she refused to renounce Falun Gong, she was subjected to solitary confinement for as long as six months at a time. She was also subjected to slave labor. She was not released until January 2007.
But the police still would not leave her alone. They repeatedly harassed her at her home and followed and monitored her non stop. Forced labor camp personnel even went to her home on Women's Day. In June 2009, she wrote down her wonderful experiences from practicing Falun Gong and listed all the facts of the persecution she had suffered. She sent them to the Xiaozhai Village Committee and Chenguan Police Station. She told them that the CCP would face annihilation but that they would be spared the same fate if they quit the CCP and/or its two affiliated youth leagues. She told them that Falun Gong was good and Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance was good. However, people from the Lin'an Town, Jianshui County 610 Office, Jianshui County State Security Team, Chenguan Police Station, and Xiaozhai Village Committee ransacked her home again and confiscated all of her Falun Gong books. When the ransacking took place, Ms. Liao was still working in the fields. When she returned and heard that her treasured collection of Falun Gong books had been confiscated again, she was heartbroken. Because the police did not show a warrant or the list of confiscated items, she did not even know who to go to. The next day she visited the Chenguan Police Station and clarified the truth about Falun Gong to the police. She also asked the police to return her Falun Gong books. She was told they had to talk to their boss and she had to wait for a few days. The next day she and her husband went to the police station again and asked to have her Falun Gong books back, but the police did not return them. On the third day, she was arrested as soon as she arrived at the police station. She was imprisoned in Jianshui Drug Rehabilitation Center for 15 days.
During the incarceration, she continued to introduce Falun Gong to prison inmates and clarify the truth about Falun Gong. She refused to sign any document or renounce Falun Gong. After she was released 15 days later, she was put under house arrest. Three days later, she heard that a relative's son had sustained a head injury in a car accident, which damaged him mentally. She decided to call on the relative. When she was about to leave the village, two police cars intercepted her. The police twisted her arms and threw her into a police car. They drove her towards the village committee. On the way there, she stuck her head outside the window and shouted, “Falun Gong is good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!” There was a farmer's market that day and there were a lot of people on the streets that heard her shouting. Once at the village committee, she was handed to the committee and was not released until the end of the day. She was warned not to leave her home.
Two days later, she was returning home from the fields at dusk when she overheard the police telling her son about her. In order to avoid another arrest, she took the path through the mountains and left her home. After that, the police went to her home daily and harassed her family. Her husband became increasingly worried and eventually his old illnesses returned. 56 days after she left home, in October 2009, she returned home when she heard that her husband was dying. He passed away at the age of 66 on October 25. Her husband, who used to be paralyzed, became healthy when he started practicing Falun Gong, but died as a result of the persecution. After her husband passed away, Ms. Liao was forbidden from leaving the village and is still harassed by the police from time to time.
