(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Jianping worked as a deputy general manager at the Hangzhou Cement Corporation in Zhejiang Province. On November 28, 2010, police officers from the Xihu Police Station arrested him and his colleague, Wei Xiang, and detained them at the Hangzhou Detention Center. Police from the Hangzhou City 610 Office said that Zhang and Wei had given Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials in Zhang's work unit truth-clarification materials about Falun Gong.
Wei Xiang started practicing Falun Gong before July 20, 1999, when the persecution began. Later, he was detained and tortured at Jidong Prison. Zhang Jianping is an accomplished leader in his field and at his workplace. One of the executives at the company called Mr. Zhang's arrest a huge loss for the company.
While Zhang Jianping was illegally detained, one of his research articles won an award. He was scheduled to give a talk in Shenzhen on December 7, and to go to Japan to speak at a technology conference in January.
Zhang Jianping and Wei Xiang's homes were searched, and their personal belongings (computers, printers, cell phones, identification cards, bank deposit slips and office supplies) were confiscated.
Five days after they were arrested, their families finally learned of their whereabouts from officials in the work unit.
The 610 Office has not allowed the two practitioners to hire an attorney. In addition, the National Security Bureau will not allow their families, colleagues or lawyers to visit them. They also threatened Zhang's family for trying to get him released.
Well aware of the brutal torture of Falun Gong practitioners by the CCP during the past eleven years, Mr. Zhang and Mr. Wei's family, friends and colleagues are deeply concerned about their safety. They call on the international community to help stop their illegal imprisonment.
