(Clearwisdom.net) On the morning of July 19, 2010, Ms. Fan Shunmei, a retired official from Hongjiang City, Hunan Province, was illegally arrested while explaining the truth about Falun Gong to people in Qiancheng Town.
Ms. Fan Shunmei gave a VCD to a man who happened to be a plainclothes police officer. As soon as he saw the disc, he shouted, "Falun Gong!" He and five other plainclothes police officers then grabbed Ms. Fan's hands and arrested her.
Upon hearing about this, the Hongjaing City 610 Office immediately sent people to the police station and Ms. Fan's house. They ransacked the house, and took many of her personal belongings, as well as all the Falun Gong books and many other truth clarification materials and discs.
When Ms. Fan left her house on the morning of July 19, she brought her two-year-old grandson with her. Because of the hot weather, she asked practitioner Ms. Chen Yelin to take care of her grandson for her. After Ms. Fan was arrested the police became aware of Ms. Chen and she was also arrested. The police officers ransacked her house as well and took her computer, printer and some of the truth clarifying materials.
Ms. Chen Yelin, 28, from the Banqiao Village in Qiancheng Town, is a young mother with a three-year-old child. She was arrested and taken to the detention center in Hongjiang City at around 9: 00 p.m. on July 19.
Ms. Fan was detained at another police station for one night. On the second day, acting on orders from the 610 Office in Huaihua City, officers at the Hongjiang City 610 Office transferred Ms. Fan to the detention center in Xinhuang County, a remote part of Huaihua City. In the Xinhuang Detention Center, the guards forced Ms. Fan, who is over 60 years old, to make handcrafted items 14 to 16 hours a day.
The Hongjiang City 610 Office unlawfully sentenced Ms. Fan Shunmei and Ms. Chen Yelin to one year of forced labor. Ms. Chen has been sent to the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City. Because Ms. Fan's family paid a lot of money to the police, the officers allowed her to go back home. In mid-August, her family brought her back home. Her family is now keeping her very closely watched at home. She isn't allowed to read any Falun Gong books or to even talk to other people. When her family leaves home, they lock the door and do not allow her to go outside.
It is not known how the Hongjiang City 610 Office threatened Ms. Fan's family and pressured them.
