Dr. Gao Yunhui

Gao Yunhui and Huang Kui, a Ph.D. from Qinghua University, shared their experiences of persecution in China.

Gao Yunhui started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. After the persecution started, Gao was detained and then sent to a forced labor camp for a year and a half for speaking out for Falun Gong. He lost more then 15 kg, and he was under a lot of mental pressure.

Mr. Gao's wife was detained for seven and a half months for practicing Falun Gong. She was tortured and lost her job. Mr. Gao said, "What the CCP does is not only attacking the belief of Falun Gong practitioners, it is also attacking humanity, for it is against God and against goodness." He appealed to people to learn more about the situation and help stop the persecution.

Mr. Huang Kui had been jailed for five years. He was beaten and tortured with electric shocks, force-feedings, sleep deprivation, brainwashing, forced labor, etc.

Mr. Yang Sen, president of the Mid-USA Falun Dafa Association spoke during the event. He said the during the past 11 years of persecution by the CCP, Falun Gong practitioners have persisted in using peaceful ways to speak out against the persecution, making great sacrifices for the cause of truth and justice. He said that three thousand people are confirmed to have died because of the persecution, while the actual number is much higher, and the persecution is still going on.

After his speech, practitioners did the exercises on front of the Chinese Consulate. Many people took fliers and expressed their support.

Background

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a traditional Chinese spiritual discipline for mind and body. The practice involves slow, gentle movements and meditation. It is easy to learn, enjoyable to practice, and free of charge. Its principles are based on Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The practice began in China in 1992 and quickly spread by word of mouth throughout China and then beyond. Its beneficial effects in uplifting an individual's physical, mental, and spiritual health, not to mention its positive influence in the community and society as a whole, have been undeniable. In fact, Falun Gong is practiced by over 100 million people in 60 countries. The main works of Falun Gong are available in over 30 languages.

On July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched a brutal persecution of Falun Gong. Since the start of the persecution, Falun Gong practitioners throughout the world have been constantly speaking out about the truth of Falun Gong and exposing the CCP's crimes in a tireless effort to end the persecution.
