(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 22 cities or counties in 17 provinces. In this report, 55 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 18 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Jilin Province] Additional Information Regarding the Death of Mr. Zhang Hui at the Gongzhuling Prison
Mr. Zhang Hui, 30, from Antu County, Yanbian, died as a result of gross abuse and torture in the Gongzhuling Prison. During surgery in April 2009, the doctor found that his stomach and intestines had turned necrotic and there was no hope of recovery. Mr. Zhang eventually died in the hospital.
In the Gongzhuling Prison, Mr. Zhang was placed in solitary confinement four times and tortured with the "Stretching Bed," in which the perpetrators tie the four limbs of the victim to a special bed with four rings attached to the corners. The fourth and last time he was locked up in a solitary confinement cell was in August 2008. He was tortured with the "Stretching Bed" for two months. The main perpetrator was political head Chen Lei in the prison's Third Ward.
2. [Jilin Province] Mr. Zheng Fengxiang Hospitalized as a Result of Gross Abuse and Torture
Mr. Zheng Fengxiang from Jilin City has been hospitalized in the Gongzhuling Prison Hospital for a month. His condition is critical, and his family is asking for medical parole.
3. [Xingcheng, Liaoning Province] Mr. Zhang Chongyue Grossly Abused and Mistreated in the Panjin Prison
Mr. Zhang Chongyue from Xingcheng in the Huludao area is being held in Team 3, Division 6 of the Panjin Prison. He has become more and more emaciated and has no appetite. His heartbeat is abnormal, his blood pressure reaches as high as 230, and he has bouts of headaches, dizziness and weakness.
4. [Yilan County, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Xing Guochun Died as a Result of Severe Abuse and Torture - belated information
Mr. Xing Guochun, 68, was from Yinglan Township, Yilan County. He went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong on January 16, 2000 and was held in custody for about 40 days. Police beat him violently numerous times during detention, which left him semi-paralyzed, and he was unable to speak clearly. He was later forced to pay 8,000 yuan and released.
The local police has harassed him many times after he returned home. Mr. Xing never recovered and passed away on January 14, 2002.
5. [Nanjing, Jiangsu Province] Mr. Tan Xinfeng Subjected to One Year of Forced Labor
Mr. Tan Xinfeng from the Pukou District was arrested on March 5, 2010. Nanjing City 610 Office officials and officers from the Pukou District Police Department made the arrest and took him to the Shifosi Detention Center. The police also ransacked his home. Mr. Tan was handed a one-year forced labor term around April 3, 2010.
6. [Wuhan, Hubei Province] Ms. Xiong Held in a Brainwashing Facility
Street Office staff convinced Ms. Xiong from the Wuchang District to go to the street office at noon on April 13, 2010. Ms. Xiong did not return home. Her family did not know her whereabouts until that afternoon, when they were told to deliver clothing for her. She is being held in the Yangyuan Brainwashing Center.
7. [Jinan City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhang Liping Subjected to Forced Labor
Zouping County 610 Office agents arrested Ms. Zhang Liping from Jinan City on March 12, 2010 and took her to the Zouping County Detention Center. She was given a one-year-and-nine-month forced labor term, and taken to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp on the afternoon of April 6, 2010.
8. [Zibo, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhou Jinhua Held in Custody
Officers from the Zhangdian Police Department arrested Ms. Zhou Jinhua from Zibo City in May 2008. She was able to escape, but had to live away from home to avoid the persecution. Ms. Zhou was arrested again in late March 2010 when she and her husband went to their employers to complete procedures for their retirement. Ms. Zhou is now being held in the Zhangdian Detention Center.
9. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Additional Information Regarding the Arrest of Mr. Wang Sheng
More than a dozen officers from the Zhongnan Police Station broke into business owner Mr. Wang Sheng's shop at around 8:00 a.m. on April 6, 2010. They handcuffed Mr. Wang, pushed him into a police vehicle and took him into custody. They searched Mr. Wang's shop for over two hours and confiscated a truck, two laptop computers, one of them belonging to a customer who sent his computer to Mr. Wang to get it repaired, and other items. Mr. Wang is now being held in the Wuchang District Detention Center.
10. [Jiaozhou, Shandong Province] Mr. Zhang Yuanmao Arrested
Mr. Zhang Yuanmao was arrested on April 17, 2010 as he distributed Falun Gong informational materials in a park. He is now in the Jiaozhou City Detention Center.
11. [Fushun City, Liaoning Province] Three Practitioners Arrested
Ms. Li, in her 60s, her husband and her son from the Wanghua District were arrested at around 7:00 a.m. on April 18, 2010. Officers from the Heping Police Station ransacked their home in their absence. They took away a large sum of cash, a bank deposit book, and three cell phones. Ms. Li's non-practitioner husband and son were later released.

12. [Xingning, Guangdong Province] Additional Information Regarding the Arrest of Ms. Liao Haiying
Ms. Liao Haiying from Xingning City was arrested at around 8:00 a.m. on April 2, 2010 in her shop in Yenan Town. We have learned that her husband Mr. Wu Xinguang called for the police to arrest her, under the pretense that she distributed Falun Gong materials. He did so in order to have grounds to divorce Ms. Liao. The police took Ms. Liao straight to the Sanshui Brainwashing Center.
13. [Fushun, Liaoning Province] Mr. Jin Baocun and Two Other Practitioners Given Prison Terms
Officials from the Nangou Detention Center handed Mr. Jin Baocun and Mr. Huang Peidong each a four-year prison term, and Ms. Wang Guilan a three-year prison term on April 12, 2010. Officer Zhang Dongsheng from the Heping Police Station took away more than 10,000 yuan from Ms. Wang and Mr. Huang during their arrest.
14. [Yinchuan, Ningxia Autonomous Region] Mr. Lu Yan Arrested, Eventually Escaped
Mr. Lu Yan was arrested on March 29, 2010 for speaking with people about Falun Gong, but was able to escape.
15. [Nanchang, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Liang Meihua Brought to Trial
Ms. Liang Meihua was brought to trial on the morning of April 20, 2010 at the Xihu District Court.

17. [Inner Mongolia] Mr. Chen Yanping Not Released after Detention Term Expired, Was Sent to Brainwashing Facility
Mr. Chen Yanping from Zou Banner, Inner Mongolia was arrested on May 7, 2008, and given a two-year forced labor term. He was held in the Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp. His detention term expired on April 15, 2010. Mr. Chen's wife and brother-in-law went to pick him up, but found that 610 Office agents had taken him to the Zou Banner Hotel on the morning of April 17, 2010. Officer Li Hongzhu and others monitored and attempted to force him to give up Falun Gong.

18. [Weifang, Shandong Province] Mr. Wu Chengshou and His Wife Persecuted; Police Take Their School-Aged Son Hostage
Officers from the Weifang Police Department and the Changle County Police Department climbed over a wall and broke into Mr. Wu Chengshou's home in Gucheng Village, Yingqiu Town, Changle County at noon on March 27, 2010. They arrested Mr. Wu, his wife Ms. Wang Xian and another practitioner, Ms. Xing Lanying, and confiscated a copier, two computers and a number of printers.
Mr. Wu and Ms. Wang were taken to the Fuyanshan Residential Community Police Station in Wangliu Town in the Weicheng District, where they were interrogated. Mr. Wu was able to escape at around 8:00 a.m. on March 31. Ms. Xing's detention location is unknown.
Officers from the Weicheng Police Department also took away Mr. Wu's son Mr. Wu Binjie as a hostage to exert pressure on Mr. Wu and his wife. The son is a student at Huangdao University.

19. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Update on Mr. Wang Qiping
Elderly practitioner Mr. Wang Qiping from the Nangang District was arrested on May 20, 2008. He was held in Yaziquan Detention Center at that time, but no further information about him has been received.
20. [Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province] Update on Mr. Cui Weikai and Mr. Zeng Yuxian
Mr. Cui Weikai, in his 70s, retired from the Epidemic Prevention Station. He has been subjected to surveillance by 610 Office agents numerous time, as well as arrests and detention. 610 Office agents ordered the police to arrest Mr. Cui on March 26, 2010. They beat him, and placed him in handcuffs and shackles. They then drove the injured Mr. Cui to the local Chinese Medicine Hospital for treatment. He was handcuffed and shackled the whole time.
Mr. Zeng Yuxian, in his 40s, an accountant at the Bureau of Commerce, was imprisoned for eight years for practicing Falun Gong. He was arrested again on March 26, 2010 for speaking with people about Falun Gong. His home was ransacked. Mr. Zeng was brutally beaten and placed in handcuffs and shackles while in detention.

22. [Beijing] Mr. Dong Guangwen Given a Prison Term
Mr. Dong Guangwen, in his 50s, lives in the Yingzezhou Residential Community, Yanqing County. He was arrested on April 21, 2009 and endured one year of gross abuse and mistreatment from the CCP regime. He was tried twice, but both trials ended in a mistrial for lack of evidence. Mr. Dong was still given a four-year prison term.

Mr. Liang Xuehai, 45, is from Bengbu City. Mr. Liang was sentenced to probation three years ago. During that time, he relied on a 500-yuan monthly income to sustain his family of three. His family has no idea where he is currently. His wife does not have a job, and his child is in kindergarten.

Ms. Shi Guizhi was arrested on the morning of April 17, 2010. Officers from the Yuci District Police Department made the arrest and have held Ms. Shi in the police department.

27. [Beijing] Police Harass Ms. Piao Lihua's Family
Two officers from the Bajiao Police Station in the Shijingshan District pounded on the door of Ms. Piao Lihua's home in the middle of the night on April 14, 2010. Ms. Piao's cousin and her cousin's husband were sleeping there at the time. The police did not find Ms. Piao, but interrogated her cousin and her cousin's husband and took down their contact numbers.

28. [Wujiang, Jiangsu Province] Mr. Zhen Tiancheng Unable to Take Care of Himself Because of Gross Abuse and Torture
Mr. Zhen Tiancheng, 59, from Henan Province, works part time. Officers from the Lili Town Police Station arrested Mr. Zhen on January 7, 2010 and took him to the Wujiang City Detention Center.
Mr. Zhen suffered sudden chest pain and could not move on February 7, 2010. He was sent to a hospital and diagnosed with heart disease, myocardial infarction, and hypertension. The police station officials informed his family to take him home. His family saw his severe condition and demanded that the police take responsibility. The police forcibly drove Mr. Zhen to the railway station and gave his family more than 1,000 yuan for travel expenses. Mr. Zhen is now bedridden at home and unable to take care of himself.

Huanren County police arrested Ms. Zheng Yushu on December 9, 2009 and took her straight to the Benxi City Detention Center. She is awaiting trial.
31. [Shanghai] Police Take Away Mr. He Binggang
Officers from the Changning Police Department Domestic Security Division broke into the company where Mr. He Binggang works and took him away on the morning of April 15, 2010. He has not returned home.
Officers from the Xuhui District Police Department previously arrested Mr. He on November 22, 2000, and Xuhui District Court officials sentenced him to six years in prison on September 29, 2001.

32. [Guizhou Province] Update on Ms. Wu Shengying and Her Husband Mr. Xiao Sixian
Ms. Wu Shengying from Hong Kong went to Xishui to invest in running a school. Her husband Mr. Xiao Sixian was a teacher at the Yuhuai High School. The couple went to Erlang Township to recruit students for the next semester and was arrested on July 12, 2008 for practicing Falun Gong. They were later secretly sentenced to prison. Ms. Wu, who was pregnant, was forced to have an abortion, and is now held at the Guizhou Province Police Hospital. Mr. Xiao is now being held in Ward 6 in the Dujun Prison.
33. [Jilin Province] Gongzhuling Prison Guards Grossly Abuse and Mistreat Mr. Ma Ping
Mr. Ma Ping from Jilin City was placed in solitary confinement after he was sent to the Gongzhuling Prison. It was extremely cold in Gongzhuling between late October and late November of 2009. The guards forbade Mr. Ma to wear warm clothing.
Mr. Ma held a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The guards forced-fed him a bowl of cold water mixed with a huge quantity of salt. Mr. Ma was tortured this way for a week. The mixture burned him, damaging his stomach and esophagus.
