(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Ding Quangen, from Rong County, Sichuan Province, has been illegally arrested and detained five times since 1999. The following is a brief account of his experiences.

First arrest: Mr. Ding Quangen and seven other practitioners went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on December 21, 1999. They were arrested, sent back and locked up in the Rong County Detention Center where Mr. Ding remained for one month. He was released after his family was forced to pay 2,000 yuan. He remained under surveillance, even at home.

Police officers Bi Chengzhong, Zhou Shanwen, Dan Jun (later changed name to Dan Jinfei), Lan Jiarong, Zhou Qigao, and Ou Wenguang were the main perpetrators. Ou Wenguang and his wife later died in an accident.

The seven accompanying practitioners, who were also severely persecuted, included Xu Guihua, Zhou Ziping, Zhu Yuangui, Hao Linfang, Wang Yuebin, Long Fengqin, and Chen Guangcai.

Second arrest: A practitioner who went to appeal for Falun Gong in Beijing spent a night at Mr. Ding's home on May 11, 2000. For this Mr. Ding was arrested and locked up at the detention center, and extortion money was demanded from him, but Mr. Ding refused. The police forced him to work long hours with little sleep at the detention center, but the mistreatment failed to break his determination. Frustrated, the police subjected him a year of forced labor, to be served at the Xinhua Forced Labor Camp in Mianyang. He was subjected to various tortures while there, including frequent beatings, being hung by handcuffs, tied up, subjected to electric shock, exposed to freezing weather, deprived of food, prolonged exposure to sun, extended forced standing and squatting, sleep deprivation and denial of restroom use. The police attempted to force him to write the three statements, but failed. To punish him, his labor camp term was extended by three months.

Third arrest: Mr. Ding was arrested again on April 2, 2003, in connection with a fellow practitioner's arrest, and detained for one month. Officers Zhang Hongshi, Zhou Shanwen and Dan Jun were actively involved in persecuting him.

Forth arrest: Mr. Ding was arrested for no apparent reason on May 20, 2005, and remained incarcerated until June 11, 2005. Dan Jun, Bi Chengzhong, Zhou Shanwen, Wang Xianglin, Zhou Qigao and Yi Ying were responsible for this event.

Fifth arrest: Rong County police officials arrested Mr. Ding at a friend's house in Baihua Town, Yibin City on March 1, 2006. When put on trial, the court-appointed prosecutor took more than an hour describing the charges, but failed to clarify what law Mr. Ding had broken. Embarrassed, the judge dismissed the trial. But Mr. Ding was later given a three-year jail sentence without a new trial.

While detained in Division Six of Wumaping Prison in Leshan, Mr. Ding was tortured with a variety of methods. For example, he was given only the usually meager breakfast - a small bun and a small bowl of rice porridge, and was only allowed a few minutes to eat. He was allowed to wash up in the evening, but the time allotted was so short that he often could not wash his feet. His work quota was extremely demanding. If he didn't meet quota, he was punished in various ways, including being forced to stand in a military training position for hours, forced to repeatedly squat and stand, sit cross-legged for hours, and endure repeated beatings. On one occasion during a cold winter he was stripped of his coat and handcuffed to an outdoor basketball post for several hours. Another time he suffered from a visible injury. To prevent others from knowing of the violence, the police locked him in a solitary cell.

Mr. Ding told others on January 5, 2008, the truth about the persecution. For this the guards exposed him to freezing temperatures in the cold weather for an entire day, and denied him drinking water. Due to the freezing temperature his hands bled and could not function. He even had trouble eating.

The prison guards were not satisfied with a "thought report" which he was forced to write, so on September 23, 2008, they forced him to sit still in the burning sunshine for an entire day. The hot temperature on the ground severely burned his thighs. When he asked permission to use the bathroom on September 27, Guard Mu Ansheng denied his request and hit him hard. Some of his teeth were knocked loose, and he could barely stand up.

Wumaping Prison political head Zhong Shiguo, guards Li Guochun, Li Bo, Wan Tao, He Ke, He Yongzhi and Xu Ke were active perpetrators - among others - during Mr. Ding's incarceration.

Although Mr. Ding was released once his sentence was up, he still has no freedom. As mentioned above, he has been constantly monitored and followed.
