(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Zhang Li, a Falun Gong practitioner in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, was illegally arrested by officers from the Xinhua Police Station on the afternoon of November 29, 2008. The officers ransacked her house and confiscated her collection of Falun Gong books and many DVD's. She was beaten and taken to the Second Detention Center of Mudanjiang City. In June 2009, she was sentenced to three years and six months at Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison. She was severely persecuted and developed a mental disorder. Her family demanded her release on medical parole, but the prison authorities wanted to take her to a mental hospital and demanded money from her family.

In the past, Ms. Zhang was arrested on several occasions and taken to detention centers and forced labor camps by officers from the Yangming Police Station.

Mr. Zhang Xin (not a practitioner), husband of Ms. Zhang, was imprisoned on a criminal charge. In the days that Ms. Zhang was detained, her young daughter had to live with her grandmother. Officers from the Yangming Police Station took advantage of her daughter, who was petrified of losing her mother, by forcing her to reveal the names of three other practitioners--Lu Shufan, Yu Bo, and Li Zhihao.

Afterwards, officers from Yangming Police Station arrested these three practitioners and subjected them to three years of forced labor at Mudanjiang Detention Center.

After being informed of Ms. Zhang's three-year sentence, her mother-in-law soon passed away from immense grief and anger. After losing her grandmother, Ms. Zhang's daughter had to stay with other relatives.

Ms. Zhang has been persecuted by the communist regime since 1999. Practitioners Ning Jun, Fu Ying, Liu Shen, and Ms. Zhang went to Beijing to appeal in September 1999 and were all arrested. They were sent to Mudanjiang City, where two officers from Dongning County Police Department and two other officers from Hailing Police Department searched them and took 15,000 yuan from them. Only Fu Ying got a small portion of it returned later.

In 2002, before the Sixteenth National Party Congress was held, police officers in Mudanjiang City arrested many practitioners. Directed by Yangming Police Station head Yang Xuhui and political head Tao Wen, deputy head Liu Zhiqiang and police officer Zhang Yitao broke into Ms. Zhang's temporary housing and took her and her young daughter into custody. One of the officers also stole a deposit receipt of 1000 yuan and illegally withdrew the cash for himself.
