(Clearwisdom.net) When I was young I heard a joke. During the Nazi occupation of Poland, a person was walking down the road when he slipped and fell into a pond. He couldn't swim and yelled for help, but two Nazi officers on patrol nearby pretended they couldn't hear him and continued walking by with guns in hand. Seeing that he was about to drown and he had nothing to lose, he waved frantically and yelled at the top of his lungs, "Down with the Nazis!!" At once, the two soldiers sprang into action as if following orders. They put down their guns, dived into the water with all their clothes on, rescued the man, and took him to the police station.
When I heard this joke, I admired the Polish man's ingenuity. At the same time I sympathized with his plight. He was living at a time when nobody would rescue him when he was facing death, a period in history when human life was something so trivial and worthless. At that time I thought the Nazis would be put on trial, but after hearing this story I thought that absolutely wouldn't happen.
Recently the Minghui website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom) posted the following story. It was told by the owner of a shop that sold electric-powered bicycles. He said that customers planning to buy a bike would carry a lot of cash, so gangs of thieves regularly went there to mug people. The police didn't do anything about it, and passersby were too scared of the consequences to say anything--who knew what connections those muggers had! One day a person wanting to buy a bike saw a gang come out of a door and approach him, clearly to take his money. He resisted but was attacked, and on seeing that he was unable to defend himself, he cried, "Help me!" But not a single passerby helped him. Perhaps this person had heard that reciting "Falun Dafa is good" can help overcome misfortune, so he then cried out, "Falun Dafa is good! Falun Dafa is good!" As soon as he yelled that, several police officers came running over. His attackers saw the police coming and scattered in different directions. The police seized the man who was being attacked and demanded, "Are you a Falun Gong practitioner?" He told them he wasn't. They asked him a few questions and agreed that he was telling the truth. They grudgingly said to him, "Hey, we saved you. You had better thank us." The man said, "I cried out for help and none of you came. I shouted 'Falun Dafa is good' and you all came running. I thank Dafa, I don't thank any of you!"
Reading this story made me very sad. Is our modern day China as terrible as Nazi-occupied Poland? On seeing a man being attacked by scoundrels, his life in danger, the police acted just like those Nazi soldiers--turning a blind eye. But as soon as they discovered this person might believe in Truth-Compassion-Forbearance, they sprang into action as if he had touched on the most sensitive issue. What duty are the police officers in China today fulfilling?
In fact, since 1999 when Jiang Zemin and the Communist Party started the persecution of Falun Gong, the country's law-enforcement and public order organizations have become tools for persecuting kind citizens.
A lot of police officers have sold their souls for short-term gains. Some took the lead and gave their all in engaging in violence and killing people. The police came up with more than 100 methods of torture, and they even participated in harvesting organs from Falun Gong practitioners. We know that more than 3365 Falun Gong practitioners have been killed.
The police officers that cruelly torture Falun Gong practitioners do nothing when common citizens run into danger and need their assistance. When those police officers lose their sense of basic human morality and kindness, aren't they also being harmed in this persecution?
Everyone wants to live in a safe society. That's why there are now 70 million Chinese people who have chosen to withdraw from Communist Party organizations. Only by disintegrating these poisonous roots will there be hope for Chinese society.
