The parade started at 12:30 from Fisherman's Wharf, went along Columbus Avenue, and ended at Washington Square, lasting more than three hours.
The Columbus Day parade in San Francisco started in 1869 and is the oldest Italian community activity in America. This year, 138 groups participated in the parade, according to the organizer, Don Casper.
Mr. Casper praised the performance of the Divine Land Marching Band. "It is colorful and peaceful. You can learn something from it," said Mr. Casper. The band was warmly welcomed by the spectators.
Petty Adarach, a local artist, watched the parade with her friends and family. She was happy to see the Falun Gong group every year. "They bring us energy," she said. The positive energy field made her comfortable.
Maria and her husband Mario kept applauding for Falun Gong. Maria said the Falun Gong practitioners' float was beautiful. "It made me think. I want to know more about Falun Gong," she said.
