(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Wu Yang and his wife Ms. Sun Ming, from Inner Mongolia, were illegally arrested by police in Beijing. Within a very short time, Ms. Sun was tortured to death. The police then created a fake suicide scene and fabricated the autopsy report, saying that she committed suicide by jumping off a building.
Mr. Wu has been detained for one and a half years since his arrest. He had a court appearance on April 9, 2010, but his family was never notified about the results of the trial and his current situation is still unknown.

Mr. Wu Yang, also known as Wu Zhijun, is from Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia. Not long after the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, he was arrested by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials from Hongshan District, Chifeng City, and unlawfully detained for nine months. His wife was also arrested. Not long after he was released, he was placed on the wanted list. He was forced to leave home to avoid further persecution.
Mr. Wu was distributing Shen Yun DVDs in Xuanwu District, Beijing on the morning of April 22, 2009, when he was reported by Wang Jianjun and arrested by officers from the Niujie Police Station. At the police station, officers beat Mr. Wu because he refused to give them any information, such as his name and address. The CCP officials nevertheless found out where he lived and then arrested his wife.
When Ms. Sun refused to cooperate, they tortured her to death. The police did not tell Mr. Wu that she had died until a week later. When they informed him of his wife's death on April 28, 2009, they lied and said she had jumped from her fifth floor apartment on the evening of April 22. However, Mr. Wu had heard that the police question Ms. Sun at 8 a.m. on April 23 in the room right next to where he was being held at the police station.
Mr. Wu recalled: "Around 8 a.m., I heard the five officers who had previously questioned me (4 males and 1 female) loudly questioning my wife next door. 'What is your husband's name?' 'Hurry up and speak!' I knew that voice was from the policeman who had arrested me. A moment later, I clearly heard my wife ask, 'What do I need to say?' Then I heard a slapping sound and the voice of the female officer, 'Answer whatever you are asked.'"
The death certificate issued by the Fengtai Police Station, which has jurisdiction over the Niujie police station, said, "Sun Min was found dead after jumping from her apartment at 1:30 a.m. on April 23, 2009," and the judicial branch's autopsy report said the date of death notification was April 22, 2009, indicating that documentation of Ms. Sun's death was being fabricated when in fact she was still alive. Ms. Sun's body was found to be covered with cuts and injuries, prompting several experts from the autopsy department (who did not wish to reveal their names) to declare that her cause of death was not from jumping off a building.
In the detention center, Mr. Wu wrote a letter about his wife's death, listing evidence showing that police had tortured her to death. He hired a lawyer look over this letter and submit it to the relevant branches. The police refused to let the lawyer see the letter or provide any guidance to Mr. Wu, however, and confiscated the document.
Mr. Wu was detained for almost a year before Fengtai Court of Beijing scheduled a court session to hear his case, which is against the Chinese Constitution, which stipulates that one cannot be detained for long periods of time without a hearing or sentencing.
Before the court session, the detention center refused to let the lawyer meet Mr. Wu. The night before the court session, they notified Mr. Wu's lawyer that he would not be allowed to defend Mr. Wu in the court. A second lawyer was forced to submit his defending arguments to the judicial branch, where they crossed out all the evidence that supported a not guilty plea, giving the reason that "defending arguments cannot contain anything insulting toward or about the Communist Party." Anything pertaining to the illegal persecution of Falun Gong was also removed from the lawyers' defense papers.
During the court session on April 9, 2010, Beijing City State Security and judicial branch only allowed two of Mr. Wu's family members in. Mr. Wu told the judge that distributing Shen Yun DVDs is not illegal under Chinese law. He also provided evidence that his wife was tortured to death and did not commit suicide.
The Fengtai Court did not announce the outcome of the trial. After the court session, the family members were questioned on who had hired the lawyer. The evening after the court session, the family heard the news that the original lawyer had his legal license suspended and that he was taken to the police station for an interrogation, as the police were trying to find out who had hired him.
It has been one and a half years since Mr. Wu's arrest on April 22, 2009. Beijing CCP officials still haven't given any notification of plea or sentencing to his family. The court has also not told the lawyer or the family anything about their decision, 6 months after the hearing. Mr. Wu's current whereabouts remain unknown.
