(Clearwisdom.net) (By a correspondent from Sichuan Province) Ms. Li Tingchui began practicing Falun Gong in 1998 after she had been sick for a long while and unable to find a cure. Her illnesses disappeared within only a few days of beginning the practice and she became healthy again. On July 20, 1999, the Jiang Zemin regime began its brutal persecution of Falun Gong and Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Li went to Beijing to appeal and tell the government, through her own experiences, that Falun Gong was good. She was arrested by plainclothes police officers at the subway station in Beijing. On January 3, she was taken to Beiwai Brainwashing Center by National Security police officer Jiang Tianxing and others. During the coldest nights of the winter, the center provided no quilts or blankets, and the meals were limited to two ounces of rice per day. The practitioners held there were forced to run and subjected to other punishments. After being persecuted this way for over fifty days, Ms. Li was transferred to the Guanghan Detention Center and held there for another month. She was released only after officer Jiang and others extorted 5,000 yuan from her family.
At around 10:00 p.m. on July 29, 2008, twenty people from Guanghan National Security, 610 Office, Chengbei Police Station, and the neighborhood association broke into Ms. Li's home while she was taking care of her young granddaughter, who was asleep. The group of people severely scared the child. They came in and ransacked the home, and seized Dafa books, along with several thousand yuan. When their attempt to deceive Ms. Li into going with them failed, around eight people forcibly carried her downstairs and threw her into a police car. They took her to the Chengbei Police Station first, and then to the Guanghan Detention Center. The persecution caused her to throw up blood, and her diabetes relapsed, making her tremble continuously. They released her after twenty days, because they were afraid that she might die.
After she returned home, the police continued to keep Ms. Li under surveillance using a police car near her upholstery store. The police also asked her son and husband to sign pledges to dissuade her from her cultivation, which harmed their family relationship.
