(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 28 cities or counties in 12 provinces. In this report, 10 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 43 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Chongqing City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Yin Sirong Detained
On July 31, 2009, Mr. Yin Sirong, a resident of the Wanzhou District, Chongqing City, was arrested and detained at the Zhoujia Community Detention Center. When his family went to the detention center on August 28, 2009, to demand his release, they learned that Mr. Yin had begun a hunger strike to protest his detention.
2. [Yanji City, Jilin Province] Ms. Zheng Yawen Arrested
In the afternoon of August 26, 2009, Ms. Zheng Yawen, a resident of Yanji City, was arrested by officers from the Helong City Public Security Department. Without notifying her family, the officers searched her house and confiscated an unknown number of personal items. On the evening of August 27, 2009, the family learned that Ms. Zheng was still being interrogated by the Helong City Public Security Department.
3. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Li Yanhong Arrested
Ms. Li Hongyan is a resident of Fengbeibao Township, Faku County, Shenyang City. On August 26, 2009, without identifying themselves, four or five officers broke into her home, confiscated copies of the Minghui Weekly and personal items, and demanded that Ms. Li report to the Fengbeibao Township Police Station on August 27, 2009.
On August 28, 2009, officers from the Fengbeibao Township Police Station arrested Ms. Li and detained her at the police station. It was reported that she will be sent to the Shenyang City Detention Center. Her family went to the police station to demand her release and were turned away.

4. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Dong Hongzhu Arrested
On August 13, 2009, Ms. Dong Hongzhu, a resident of the Heping District in Shenyang City, was arrested in her rental home in the Hunnan Developing Zone by Officers Xu and Liu from the Political Security Office in the Heping District Police Department. Her whereabouts are unknown.
5. [Linghai City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhu Baojuan Persecuted in Jinzhou Public Security Hospital
Ms. Zhu Baojuan, 40, is a resident of Jiangye County, Linghai City. On July 1, 2008, before the Olympic Games, she was arrested at her home by the Linghai City Police Department and later sentenced to a five-year prison term by the Linghai City Court. It was reported that on July 21, 2009, she was secretly taken to the Shenyang Dabei Prison by the Linghai City Police Department and Linghai City Detention Center. According to most recent sources, Ms. Zhu was never sent to the Dabei Prison. Instead she was sent to the Jinzhou Public Security Hospital, where she is being persecuted. She is in very poor health.

On the morning of August 27, 2009, Ms. Lu, a resident of Wanfu Town, Gaizhou City, was reported while she was clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to a man in Wanfu Town and arrested by officers from the Wanfu Town Police Station and Gaizhou City Public Security Department. She is held at the Gaizhou City Detention Center.

8. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Shi Guixiang Sent to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp for a Two-year Term
Ms. Shi Guixiang was arrested by officers from the Huanghe Street Police Station in the Xigang District, Dalian City, on July 4, 2009. On August 16, 2009, Ms. Shi and two other female practitioners were sent to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Shi is to serve two-year term. The terms of the other twos practitioners are unclear.
9. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Ailing Ms. Wang Lige Persecuted by Linghe District Court
On August 19, 2009, the Linghe District Court in Jinzhou City tried Ms. Wang Lige, who had shown symptoms of a stroke and cardiac arrest prior to the trial. Twenty minutes before the court opened, Ms. Li had a heart attack, and the bailiff called for paramedics for emergency treatment. Ms. Wang's attorney repeatedly asked the court to allow Ms. Wang to go to the hospital for treatment, but the court ignored the attorney's request and completed the trial with Ms. Wang lying on a stretcher. Her family went to the court on August 24, 2009, to demand her release. Wang Jinwen, deputy chief judge, claimed that she did not have any health problems at all and that her symptoms before the trial were due to nervousness. The family then went to the Jinzhou City Detention Center but did not see Ms. Wang.
The family went back to the court on August 26 and 27 to demand Ms. Wang's release. Zhou Jun, chief justice of the criminal court, and Meng Ying, chief judge, avoided meeting the family.

10. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Li Dawei Arrested at Home
At approximately 5:00 p.m. on August 26, 2009, Mr. Li Dawei, 28 years old, from Shandong Province, was monitored while he was using a computer in an Internet cafe. After he got home, he was arrested by officers from the Guangming Police Station in the Jinzhou District, Dalian City. He is held at the police station.

11. [Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Ji Shuxia and Ms. Lin Huimei Persecuted
At approximately 5:00 p.m. on August 25, 2009, Ms. Ji Shuxia and Ms. Lin Guimei were reported when they were explaining the facts about Falun Gong on North Changchun Road. Four to five officers from the Jianshe Police Station tried to arrest the two women, who refused to cooperate and shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!" The officers called for a police car and forcibly took them to the Jianshe Police Station, where the police searched them and their bags and confiscated four Shen Yun DVDs and other Falun Gong-related materials. The police confined them in separate rooms, tied them to chairs, and questioned them about the source of their DVDs. Neither woman cooperated with the unlawful interrogation. The police later found Ms. Li's residence record in the computer. Ms. Lin was not released until her daughter-in-law listed herself as a guarantor. Ms. Ji does not have any family, so Ms. Lin's other daughter-in-law put herself up as a guarantor before Ms. Ji was released. The police also extorted 5,000 yuan from them.
12. [Shunyi District, Beijing] Ms. Jiao Yaling and Ms. Wei Jingfang Arrested
At approximately 3:00 p.m. on August 25, 2009, Wang Mingxia from the Shengli Police Station in the Shunyi District and ten other officers, all disguised as plumbers, deceived Ms. Jiao Yaling, a 62-year-old resident of the Jianxinnan District in Beijing, to open the door for them. They arrested her, searched her home, and confiscated many of her personal items.
On the same day, Wang Mingxia and the same group of officers broke into Ms. Wei Jiangfang's home in the Jiannan District and searched her place until after 7:00 p.m. They confiscated many personal items. Then they took 63-year-old Ms. Wei into custody.
Both of Ms. Jiao and Ms. Wei's husbands were arrested and taken to the Tuanhe Men's Forced Labor Camp in Daxing County prior to the Olympic Games in 2008. Ms. Jiao and Ms. Wei's whereabouts are unknown.
13. [Beijing] Ms. Zhang Haiya Arrested
Ms. Zhang Haiya, in her 40s, is an editor at Huaxia Publishing in Beijing. She was arrested around August 20, 2009.
14. [Tianjin] Ms. Cong Huifeng Arrested
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on August 26, 2009, Ms. Cong Huifeng, 74 years old, was reported when she was distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in the Xiaobailou residential community in Tianjin. She was arrested, and her home was searched by the Hexi Branch of the Tianjin Public Security Department. Her whereabouts is unknown.
15. [Tianjin] Hedong District Court in Tianjin Tries Mr. Liu Huijiang and Other Practitioners
On August 26, 2009, the Hedong District Court in Tianjin held a secret trial for Mr. Liu Huijiang and other practitioners. Their families were not permitted to sit in.
16. [Jimo City, Shandong Province] Ms. He Xiuxiang Sent to Forced Labor Camp
At approximately 7:00 a.m. on August 13, 2009, Ms. He Xiuxiang from Jimo City was arrested in public by Dong Quan, director of the Lingshan Town Comprehensive Management Office, and officers from the Lingshan Town Police Station. She was taken by car to the Lingshan Police Station, where the police searched her and took away the 30 yuan she had on her.
Afterward, Wang Deyi and several other officers went to Ms. He's home and searched it. At around noon, he called Ms. He's family and threatened them, saying that they had to pay 500 yuan in fees for Ms. He's physical exam. When the family went to the police station the next day to demand her release, they were told that Ms. He was under administrative detention.
On the morning of August 27, 2009, Wang Deyi called Ms. He's family again and told them to come to the police station. When they got there, the police told the family that Ms. He was sentenced to one year of forced labor and forced her husband to sign the document.

17. [Pingdu City, Shandong Province] Ms. Li Yuhua Arrested
Ms. Li Yuhua, 42, is a resident of the Huangjiqing Family Courtyard in Pingdu City. On August 28, 2009, she was arrested by the Pingdu City Public Security Department when she was talking to people about Falun Gong at the Gezhuang Village Fair in Pingdu City.
18. [Baoji City, Shanxi Province] Ms. Wang Guaiyan and Husband Persecuted in Lingyun Hotel
Ms. Wang Guaiyan and her husband, Mr. Zhang Chunlin, were arrested on July 8, 2009. According to sources, Ms. Wang managed to escape from Lingyun Hotel, where she had been held, but was arrested again three days later. Both she and her husband are still tied to iron chairs in the hotel and are being persecuted. Their school-aged daughter is alone at home on her own. The couple refused to cooperate with the authorities and have become extremely thin as a result of the abuse.
19. [Dingzhou City, Hebei Province] Mr. Tian Hongguang and Mr. Zhang Jianguo Arrested
At approximately 6:00 a.m. on August 28, 2009, officers broke into the homes of Mr. Tian Hongguang, a resident of Dongguan Village, Dingzhou City, in his 40s, and Mr. Zhang Jianguo, a resident of Nan Street, in his 50s. The officers arrested both Mr. Tian and Mr. Zhang and confiscated their computers. Their whereabouts are unknown.
20. [Dingzhou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Cao Junru Arrested
Ms. Cao Junru, in her 60s, is a resident of Bajiaolang Village, Xicheng District, Dingzhou City. At around noon on August 27, 2009, she was reported while she was distributing DVDs about Falun Gong and was arrested. Her home was searched. She is in the Dingzhou City Detention Center.

22. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Ms. Wei Lirui Detained
Ms. Wei Lirui from the Qiaoxi District in Shijiazhuang City was arrested on August 20, 2009, and is being held at the Shijiazhuang City Detention Center.
23. [Cangzhou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhang Yonghong Sent to Forced Labor Camp
Ms. Zhang Yonghong from Cangzhou City was sentenced to one year of forced labor and sent to the Shijiazhuang City Forced Labor Camp on August 28, 2009.
24. [Xinmi City, Henan Province] Ms. Ma Guirong Sent to Shibalihe Rehabilitation Center
Between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on August 18, 2009, more than ten officers from the Quliang Township Police Station went to the barbershop owned by Ms. Ma Guirong, a resident of Quliang Township, Xinmi City. They searched the place and arrested her. After the officers took her to the police station, they tried to force her to write the so-called guarantee statement. Ms. Ma refused and was taken to the Xinmi City Detention Center that evening. Eight days later, she was sent to the Shibalihe Rehabilitation Center in Zhengzhou City.
25. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhang Shuzhen and Ms. Yuan Baoqin Arrested
At approximately 4:00 p.m. on August 26, 2009, when Ms. Zhang Shuzhen and Ms. Yuan Baoqin were talking to people about Falun Gong near the small bridge in the Longdong Community in the Lubei District, two cars arrived and took Ms. Zhang and Ms. Yuan to the Diaoyutai Police Station in Lubei District. They are held at the Changningdao Detention Center in Tangshan City.
26. [Hanzhong City, Shanxi Province] More than Ten Practitioners in Xichang County Arrested
On July 22, 2009, officers from the Xishang County 610 Office, Public Security Department and the Chengnei Police Station arrested Ms. Yue Xiancui, Mr. Zhang Houming, and Mr. Hu Youming and searched their homes. As of August 28, 2009, more than ten practitioners in Xishang County have been arrested. They are all being held at the Xishang County Detention Center.

29. [Baoji City, Shanxi Province] Ms. Yang Yuling and Ms. Wang Cuihua Released after Funds Extorted from Them
Ms. Yang Yuling and Ms. Wang Cuihua, both employees of Qinchuan Machine Tool Factory in Baoji City, were arrested on June 16, 2009. They have been released recently after having thousands of yuan were extorted from them. Several other practitioners in the area have had money extorted from them recently as well.
30. [Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Han Yiming Persecuted by 610 Office
The Bao'an District 610 Office in Shenzhen City and the district Procuratorate have intensified the persecution of Mr. Han Yiming recently. Mr. Han's family have tried to clarify the truth about Falun Gong to Wang Juan, the procurator of Mr. Han's case, but Wang ignored the family and submitted Mr. Han's indictment to the court. The hearing was set between August 24 and September 8, 2009.

31. [Zhangye City, Gansu Province] Ms. Hu Guiqin and Ms. Wang Shi'ai Arrested
On August 26, 2009, Ms. Hu Guiqin, Ms. Wang Shi'ai, and several other practitioners were arrested by officers Cui Jicai and Wang Shiying from the Ganzhou District Domestic Security Division and others from the local police station and residents' committee. Ms. Hu and Ms. Wang are now in the Xindun Town Detention Center in Ganzhou District.
32. [Shiyan City, Hubei Province] Four Practitioners in Shiyan City Arrested
Recently several practitioners in Shiyan City have been arrested: Ms. Zhang Xiancui, 56, a resident at the Yunyang Medical School who was arrested on the morning of August 4, 2009; Ms. Song Minghua, 56, a resident at the Yunyang Medical School who was arrested on the morning of August 10, 2009; Ms. Zheng Yilan, 70, a resident at the Shiyan Steel Jacket Plant who was arrested on the morning of August 18, 2009; Ms. Zhou Ping, in her 40s, a resident of Hanjiagou Village who was arrested on the morning of August 19, 2009. All four of them are in the Xiajiadian No. 1 Detention Center.
33. [Cangxi County, Sichuan Province] Ms. Zhang Qin Arrested by Local 610 Office
Ms. Zhang Qin from Cangxi County was recently arrested by Li Fengrun and Li Yinghe from the Cangxi 610 Office while she was telling people about Falun Gong. She was taken to the Guangyuan Region in Sichuan Province for further persecution.
34. [Qionglia City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Gu Zhiguang Arrested
On August 19, 2009, Mr. Gu Zhiguang from Sangyuan Town, Qionglai City, was arrested while he was working as a pedicab driver.

36. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Updates on Ms. Lin Guizhi
Ms. Lin Guizhi from Chaoyang City is being held at the Sixth Group of the Second Ward of the Women's Division of Shenyang Prison. She has developed a blood clot in the brain as a result of abuse. When her symptoms act up, she falls unconscious six or seven times a day. Prison guard Zhang Lei said, "Lin Guizhi could be released on parole for medical treatment. However, she has to plead guilty, give up her belief, and write the guarantee statement. If she doesn't, she will never to released, even if she ends up dying here."
37. [Luquan City, Hebei Province] Ms. Wei Fenglan Brutally Tortured in the Hebei Province Women's Prison
Since her imprisonment in the Second Ward of the Hebei Province Women's Prison, Ms. Wei Fenglan has been on hunger strike for most of a year to protest the persecution. Since early July 2009, she has been subjected to force-feedings on a daily basis. Prison guard Duan Xuefeng did not let other inmates take Ms. Wei in a cart to the hospital for force-feeding, claiming that riding in a cart would be too comfortable for her. He ordered the inmates to drag her to the hospital instead. On July 21, 2009, instigated by the prison guard, inmates Zhang Jie and Zheng Xiaoqin dragged Ms. Wei from the fifth floor to the ground level for forced-feeding. Ms. Wei's back was injured as a result.
To prevent Ms. Wei from doing the Falun Gong exercises, the prison guard tied her arms behind her back and her legs together so she could only bend her knees slightly. Only before and after the force-feeding, when she needed to use the toilet, or when there were people visiting, would she be untied.
