(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 21 cities or counties in 12 provinces. In this report, 23 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 24 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Songyuan City, Jilin Province] Guards Apply Electric Shocks to Mr. Xu Hui in Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp
In June 2009, Mr. Xu Hui from Fuyu County in Songyuan City explained to others about Falun Dafa while being held at the No. 7 Division in the Heizuizi Forced Labor. The division and section heads of the No. 7 Division stuck charged electric batons into Mr. Xu's mouth. His mouth was full of blisters, and his face swelled up.
2. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Qian Ruixiang Taken into Custody
At around 11 a.m. on August 13, 2009, Ms. Qian Ruixiang was turned in to the police while distributing brochures. Officers from the Liutiaohu Police Station in Shenyang City took her into custody. At around 4:00 p.m. a group of officers searched her home. They confiscated 70 copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, a computer, a printer, and other personal belongings.
3. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Six Practitioners, including Mr. Chi Minggang, Placed on Trial
Six practitioners from Chenxiang Town in Sujiatun District, Shenyang City were unlawfully placed on trial on August 14, 2009. The practitioners are Mr. Chi Minggang, Ms. Yao Yayun, Ms. Yang Yakun, Ms. Zhao Suxian, Ms. Tanglian, and Ms. Guan Ping.
4. [Fushun City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Xu Jun's Home Searched; Her Whereabouts Unknown
Ms. Xu Jun, in her sixties, lives in the Huanleyuan area in Fushun City. At around 4:00 p.m. on August 7, 2009, the police searched her home. Her whereabouts are unknown.
5. [Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province] Practitioners Harassed by Officers from Wohongqiao Police Station
Officers from the Wohongqiao Police Station have often harassed practitioners under their jurisdiction. In August 2008, Wu Zengjun, a residential officer, and four others broke into Ms. Liu Shuju's home. They confiscated Falun Dafa books and materials. On July 22, Xiao Yong and two other officers drove a police vehicle in the rain to harass practitioners at their homes. The officers showed up again the following morning. They carried a list of five or six practitioners.
6. [Songyuan City, Jilin Province] Ms. Hong Xiuqing Severely Abused at Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp
At around 4:00 p.m. on September 28, 2004, Mr. Wang Tongchun and Ms. Hong Xiuqing from Songyuan City were on their way to Beijing to visit relatives. Officers from the Songyuan City 610 Office, the Domestic Security Division, and the Songjiang Police Department took them into custody. Guo Wenbo and a dozen officers tortured Ms. Hong during interrogations at the Songjiang Police Department. She was taken to the Shanyou Detention Center the same night. On October 16, she was taken to the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City to serve a 21-month term.
In Heizuizi Labor Camp Ms. Hong was severely abused. She was deprived of sleep, forced to stand against the wall for extended hours, slapped in the face, and struck by charged electric batons. Her teeth were loosened as a result of brutal beatings. Blood came out of her mouth. She was humiliated, threatened, and cursed all day long. The goal of labor camp officials was to force her to give up practicing Falun Gong. Zou Jialin, a guard in the No. 4 Team in the No. 7 Division, poked Ms. Hong's forehead, dragged her around by her clothes, and ordered her not to talk or even look at others. Because of this extensive abuse, Ms. Hong has almost completely lost the sight in both her eyes. Her body weight has dropped from around 200 pounds to below 110 pounds.
7. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Wang Xiujuan and Mr. Wu Yang Taken into Custody
Ms. Wang Xiujuan and Mr. Wu Yang work at the Fangchan Section of the Harbin Railroad Department. The railroad police and officials of the section they work at forcibly took the two practitioners to a brainwashing center.

8. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Mr. Zeng Lingwen Remains under Surveillance
Mr. Zeng Lingwen returned home after being taken away by the police. He remains under surveillance at his home in Changchun City.
9. [Beijing] Ms. Zhai Suzhen's Whereabouts Remain Unknown after Being Taken into Police Custody
Ms. Zhai Suzhen from Hebei Province works odd jobs in Beijing. On July 7, 2009, the police took her into custody while she was at work in a company in the Haidian District, Beijing. Her child came to Beijing to look for her. After three days, no information about Ms. Zhai was available at all.
Ms. Zhai was unlawfully held in custody a few years ago by the Hebei police. Her older sister was arrested by the police in Beijing last year and remained in custody for over a year. She was supposed to be released in July 2009. However, the police have come up with various excuses to extend her forced labor term. She remains in the labor camp.
10. [Tianjin] Ms. Liu Xiaoyun Sentenced to Three Years in Prison by Dagang District Court
On March 23, 2009, Ms. Liu Xiaoyun was taken into custody by patrolling officers from the Gangdong Police Station in the Dagang District in her home in the Dagang Oil Fields in Tianjin. She has been sentenced to three years in prison.

12. [Yantai City, Shandong Province] Mr. Qiu Shaojie Placed on Trial
On May 4, 2009, Mr. Qiu Shaojie from the Zhifu District in Yantai City was taken to the Nanjiao Detention Center in the Zhifu District. On July 29, the Zhifu District Court held a trial on Mr. Qiu without notifying his family.
13. [Liaocheng City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhang Xianfeng and Ms. Zhang Guilan Taken into Custody
Ms. Zhang Xianfeng and Ms. Zhang Guilan live in Baliwang Village under the jurisdiction of the Liuyuan Neighborhood Administration Office in the Dongchangfu District, Liaocheng City. Members of the Dongchangfu District 610 Office, officials from the neighborhood administration, and officers from the Yundong Police Station took the two practitioners into custody and searched their homes.

14. [Xianghe County, Hebei Province] Ms. Yu Wanli, around 50 Years Old, Taken into Custody with Another Practitioner on July 28
15. [Shandong Province] Ms. Xiao Yongxiu Abused in Shandong Province No. 2 Women's Forced Labor Camp
Ms. Xiao Yongxiu, 45, lives in Langya Town, Qingdao City, Shandong Province. In July, she refused to write the Three Statements renouncing Falun Gong in the Shandong Province No. 2 Women's Forced Labor Camp. As a result, she was force-fed. On July 8, Shen Hongxiu and three other guards dragged Ms. Xiao to a hall downstairs. They started slapping her. Then dragged her to the clinic for force-feeding. The force-feeding lasted till July 16 when the guards took her to the Basan Hospital to change the tubes inserted into her stomach. Ms. Xiao has been locked in an office under the surveillance of dedicated personnel. She was not allowed to take showers. As of July 29, Ms. Xiao was still on a hunger strike.
16. [Zunhua City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhang Yanhong Taken to Brainwashing Center
Ms. Zhang Yanhong lives in Cuijiazhuang Village, Cuijiazhuang Township in Zunhua City. At noon on August 13, 2009, officers from the Zunhua City Domestic Security Division and from the Cuijiazhuang Police Station took her to a brainwashing center.
17. [Fuyang City, Anhui Province] Mr. Zhou Yupeng Taken into Police Custody
Mr. Zhou Yupeng, 48, lives in Yingshang County, Fuyang City. On August 13, 2009, he was taken into custody the third time by officers led by Yang Zhongcheng of the Yingshang County Police Department and Liu Fuming, a local police officer.
18. [Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Wang Sanxiu Taken into Custody; Two Other Practitioners Sentenced to Forced Labor
Ms. Wang Sanxiu, in her fifties, is an employee of the Jiangsu Province Metallurgy, Geology, and Minerals Institute. She was sentenced to forced labor twice, serving a total of over 4 years. On August 5, 2009, Meng Fei, a residential officer, and other officers from the Ruijin Road Police Station in Baixia District, Nanjing City, took her into custody. Her whereabouts are unknown.
Ms. Xie Lihua was sentenced to 18 months of forced labor by the Muxuyuan Police Station.
Ms. Zhang Yuhua has been taken to the Judong Women's Forced Labor Camp.

19. [Baoding City, Hebei Province] Ms. Wang Yingxin and Five Other Practitioners Taken into Custody
At around 10:00 p.m. on August 12, 2009, Si Tianhu, director of the Beiwangli Township Comprehensive Management in the Qingyuan area in Baoding City, Zhang Jianwei, member of the comprehensive management office, and three police officers arrived at Xiwangli Village. They took into custody six practitioners who were studying the Fa: Ms. Wang Yingxin, Ms. Shi Xiaoxue, Mr. Wang Dasheng, Mr. Wang Mengyong, Fangfang (female), and Xiaofang (female). The practitioners are being held at the Qingyuan Detention Center.

20. [Anyi County, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Yu Meilan Persecuted since 2000
Ms. Yu Meilan, 57, lives in Dinghu Town, Anyi County, Jiangxi Province.
One night in June 2000, a group of people led by Xiong Minghua, an officer from the Anyi County Domestic Security Division, kicked in her door and broke into her home. The police searched her home. They confiscated all Falun Dafa books and cassette tapes of Falun Gong exercises. Ms. Yu was held in custody for 15 days. Her family had 2,000 yuan in cash extorted from them.
In 2007, Ms. Yu Meilan and Ms. Yu Shuimei were turned in to the police while the two were giving out brochures in Ganzhou Town, Fengxin County. Officers from the Ganzhou Police Station handcuffed the women and put them in a police vehicle. Xiong Minghua again led officers to search Ms. Yu Meilan's home. The police took Falun Dafa books. The two practitioners were taken to the Fengxin Detention Center that night, where they were held in custody for over 20 days. Ms. Yu Meihua's son was forced to pay the police 20,000 yuan in exchange for the release of his mother. After her release, Dinghu Town officials in Anyi County pressured her husband, demanding that he come up with another 8,000 yuan. Her husband has not been able to go to work since then to avoid police extortion.
21. [Huanggang City, Hubei Province] Police Harass Elderly Ms. Wang
At around 4:00 p.m. on July 15, 2009, over 30 police officers broke into elderly Ms. Wang's home. The officers claimed to be from the state security department, the police department, the 610 Office, and the local police station. They took Falun Dafa books, truth clarification materials, a computer, a color printer, and over 3,000 yuan in cash Ms. Wang and her husband saved from their retirement salary.
22. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Zhou Ronglun Faces Trial
On May 13, 2009, Mr. Zhou Ronglun was taken into custody by the Yuexiu District police in Guangzhou City for giving out truth clarification brochures. His family contended that Mr. Zhou was nearly 80 years old and suffering from neck problems. They applied for "medical parole" on behalf of Mr. Zhou. On the anniversary of the June 4th 1989 student movement, security guards in the residential complex sealed her home for three days to prevent her from going out. Around July 20, which marked the tenth anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party's suppression of Falun Gong, the security staff blocked the entrance to her home for four days.
In the past few days, the Yuexiu District Procuratorate notified Mr. Zhou's family to sign prosecution papers charging him with "obstructing the implementation of the law."
23. [Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province] Mr. Xie Xinglu Held at Huili County Detention Center
Mr. Xie Xinglu lives in Huili County in Liangshan Prefecture. On August 9, 2009, he went missing. Six days later it was discovered that he had been secretly taken into custody by the state security police. Mr. Xie is being held at the Huili County Detention Center.
24. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Deng Weijian Taken into Custody; His Home Searched
At around 8:00 a.m. on August 5, 2009, Mr. Deng Weijian was taken into custody at work by Yang Bing, a state security police officer, and two other people. His home in the Qingbaijiang District of Chengdu City was also searched at the same time. The police confiscated a computer, a printer, a motorcycle, truth clarification materials, and other personal belongings.
25. [Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province] Ms. Su Qiongbo and Ms. He Lianchun Sentenced to Prison
Ms. Su Qiongbo lives in Gejiu City in the Honghe Prefecture. On February 12, 2009, she was taken into custody by members of the Gejiu City 610 Office and officers from the domestic security division. She has been held at the Datun Town Detention Center. Her family has not been allowed to visit her. On June 19, she received a notice in the detention center that she had been sentenced to eight years in prison. She has appealed her case.
Ms. He Lianchun lives in Mengzi County in the Honghe Prefecture. On January 23, 2009, she was taken into custody by members of the Mengzi County 610 Office and officers from the domestic security division. She has been held at the Bailujiao Detention Center in the western suburbs of Mengzi County. She has been sentenced to ten years in prison. Her family has not been notified.
26. [Xianning City, Hubei Province] Persecution Experienced by Ms. Zhang Hongping since 1999
On August 12, 1999, Ms. Zhang Hongping went to Beijing to put in a fair word for Falun Gong. She was taken into custody on August 20 and held at the Changping Detention Center in Beijing. On August 28, she was taken back to Xianning City. She was held at the Shuanghe Detention Center for 15 days before being transferred to a brainwashing center in the Xianning City Food Department, where she was held for 37 days. The authorities tried to extort 3,000 yuan from her family. Her family refused to comply.
On December 26, 1999, she went to Beijing again to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. She was taken into custody on December 27 and held at the Chaoyang District Detention Center in Beijing. Three days later, she was taken back to Xianning City. She was held at the Shuanghe Detention Center for 15 days. Then she was transferred to the Chibi City Detention Center, where she remained for over two months. The detention center guards handcuffed and shackled her and three other practitioners together for 11 days. She was released after her family had 700 yuan extorted from them.
In August 2000, she was turned in for giving out truth clarification materials. The police took her away from her home. She was held at the Shuanghe Detention Center for over 20 days.
In July 2001, the head of the security section of the Xianning Pharmaceutical Factory reported to the police that Ms. Zhang handed out the latest articles written by the founder of Falun Gong. Du Zhixiang, head of the political security section of the Xianning City Police Department, interrogated her for two hours in a small room before releasing her.
In June 2003, Ms. Zhang was taken to the Sanhaoqiao Police Station on the grounds she had been distributing copies of the Minghui Weekly. Her home was searched. She walked out of the police station with righteous thoughts.
On June 1, 2005, police officers Song Ruisheng and Du Zhixiang took Ms. Zhang into custody. She was held at the Maoershan Detention Center in Xianning City for three days. She went on a hunger strike for three days before being transferred to the Hubei Province Brainwashing Center. She was held there 35 days. The police demanded 3,000 yuan from her family. Her family did not comply. Ms. Zhang was then transferred to the Xianning City Detention Center. A month later, she was sentenced to 18 months of forced labor.
