"The performance is terrific, it has got a good variety, and the dancers are exquisite. It has got a lot of colour, and the drummers are really good," Mr. McColl said.

Mr. McColl shared that seeing Shen Yun for the first time helped him learn more about China and its rich, classical culture. "It is enjoyable to see some of the culture and get some of the history. It is educational for me, learning a little bit about the Chinese culture and the dance techniques of traditional dances."

Mr. McColl highly recommended the New York-based show and praised the orchestra, adding that he appreciated seeing the Chinese ethnic dances that are part of Shen Yun. "For me it is a different experience. It is a different culture, a lot of different dances. The dancers are exquisite!"

Shen Yun Performances Profound

"I thought it was quite delightful, profound, and had a great message that I was happy to receive. It was presented beautifully," said Ms. Younder, a structured settlements adviser.

Ms. Younder enthusiastically described her experience after seeing the opening performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts at Toronto's Canon Theatre on Friday evening, which she attended accompanied by Mr. Mijvick, a venture capitalist. "There was a lot of beauty, talent .... Great story!" agreed Mr. Mijvick.

Mr. Mijvick shared the amazement that world-wide audiences have expressed over the unique and innovative backdrop that is part of Shen Yun's performances. "They came from the heavens and then they came up [onto the stage] and it was so real. It was amazing to see people coming from and then going back to the heavens. Quite profound!" he said.

Ms. Younder said she was so intrigued by the beautiful flyer she had seen promoting the show, that she decided to come to Friday's premiere. "I was taken by the beauty of the layout and the fact that it appeared to be the beginning of time for the Chinese. It got my attention and I just wanted to see what it was all about."

The orchestra for the show combines a blend of Western and Chinese instruments, bringing together two of the world's greatest classical music traditions.

Mr. Mijvick, a classical pianist himself, praised the high caliber of the performers. "They are all very good, very competent. The skills were all solid. I don't know what it was, but there was this freedom of expression, some richness where everyone was equal, where everyone was equally great," he said.
