We Must Not Intentionally Create Obstacles for Our Fellow Practitioners
(Clearwisdom.net) I had a lot of thoughts after reading the Minghui editors' article "Fellow Practitioners, Let Us Give Up Our Human Mindsets". They normally do not publish articles lightly. This article probably means that there is some serious problem that needs to be rectified, as Teacher told us to look to Minghui/Clearwisdom's position on important matters. I'd like to share my thoughts after reading the article.
Quite a few practitioners had attachments about the Olympics, and this is certainly one aspect of the problem. On the other hand, some of the articles published in our media and some of the sharing among our practitioners have contributed to these attachments.
The media run by overseas practitioners plays a great role in explaining the facts about the persecution and saving sentient beings. Their achievement is obvious. This is also a process for practitioners to validate the Fa and establish their mighty virtue. Many practitioners work day and night to do a good job running the media, and they have contributed selflessly to the validation of the Fa.
Because of this, these media outlets have gradually become highly regarded among practitioners. The practitioners who failed to study the Fa well even took the major points printed by a media outlet or commentaries written by a particular practitioner or practitioners as a reflection of what is happening in the Fa rectification. In even more serious cases, the practitioners who did not study the Fa well mistakenly regarded predictions written by practitioners as if they were from Teacher. This has no doubt created a huge obstacle in their personal cultivation and is also a human mindset that they must abandon.
"The future of the cosmos that beings at different levels have seen actually doesn't exist and is an illusion. At present, humankind's every day is arranged according to Dafa's needs; Dafa disciples' performance in the human world is to be left for history." ("What Are Supernormal Abilities" from Essentials for Further Advancement II)
When practitioners become attached to prophesies, there is a problem of respecting Teacher and the Fa. Who will we believe: Teacher's words or a prophesy from the past or things seen by practitioners through their third eyes? This is not to say that we should not publish prophesies, but how much importance should be ascribe to them? If they can play a role in saving sentient beings, then let's publish them by all means. But if some prophecies point to an exact date and what should happen, and then fails to come true, then this can have a negative effect and also evoke in some practitioners an attachment to a certain date. Even though some articles did use the words "might happen" when mentioning a time, it will still give readers the wrong impression. This can also affect the credibility of those practitioners or the media outlets. In other words, there is a big downside to doing this.
Some people may think that whenever problems arise, it is because many practitioners have loopholes, so we must not attribute the responsibility to the media or to the writer of an article, as this has exposed the attachment of these practitioners so that they can let it go. I think this is only one aspect of the issue. I think that we are all cultivators and it would be wrong if we did something with the intention of testing other practitioners. If we unintentionally create interference for our fellow practitioners, then we really need to pay special attention to what happened.
"That is because once someone has done grave harm to practitioners, and caused some practitioners to fall--or even to be placed among the ranks of those who will be eliminated--how is such a massive karmic debt to be paid off? " ("Shifting of the Sand")
I am not saying that our media or certain of our writers did something that severe, but I wanted to highlight the seriousness of the whole matter. We must not intentionally create obstacles for our fellow practitioners. Even though they have attachments, we must not amplify them. If damage has already been done, then we must draw lessons from it and avoid similar mistakes in the future. If all of our writers would be more careful, then these prophecies would likely play a much more positive role in their and others' cultivation.
Right now it is urgent for us to save people, so we must make better use of our time and make more concerted efforts to save sentient beings. We must not waste our time on speculation. When our media outlets publish these prophecies, they must be as serious and careful as possible. That way, we can avoid creating unnecessary misunderstandings.
This is my personal understanding. Please kindly help me understand any shortcomings in this article.
