(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 25 cities or counties in 15 provinces. In this report, 24 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 40 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Mr. Zhang Yunliu Remains Missing after Going to Beijing in 2004
2. [Huanggang City, Hubei Province] Ms. Long Xiang Unlawfully Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison
Ms. Long Xiang, 54, was taken to the Tangxunhu Brainwashing Center by officers from the Huanggang 610 Office on June 17, 2008. She has been unlawfully sentenced to eight years in prison and is being held in a prison cell.
3. [Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province] Mr. Li Hu Sentenced to Prison; His Fiancé Ms. Xu Chunling Detained
Mr. Li Hu lives in the Baiyunshan area of Xuzhou City. His fiancé, Ms. Xu Chunling, lives in Fang Village in Tongshan County, Xuzhou City. After acquiring a marriage license, they were planning to have a wedding ceremony in May 2007. However, both Mr. Li and Ms. Xu were unlawfully taken into custody. Mr. Li has been sentenced to prison and Ms. Xu remains in custody.
In February 2007, officers from the Fengcai Police Station in Xuzhou City took Mr. Li Hu into custody. Mr. Li was held at the Jiawang District Detention Center for 17 months. After being secretly sentenced to three years in prison, he was transferred to the Hongzehu Prison at the end of July 2007. Mr. Li is an employee of the Jinan Railroad Department at the Xuzhou Railroad Section. He was taken to the Jinan Railroad Department Brainwashing Center and was under constant harassment.
In June 2008, Ms. Xu Chunling was taken to the Sanbao Detention Center by the local police, who used the excuse of safeguarding the Beijing Olympics for the arrest. Between 2000 and 2002, Ms. Xu was held at the Suining Brainwashing Center, where she was brutally beaten on numerous occasions because she refused to be "transformed." During this time her mother died and she was not allowed to attend the memorial service. Her sister-in-law, Ms. Yuan Ling, who is also a practitioner, was unlawfully arrested and sentenced to prison in February 2007.
4. [Huanggang City, Hubei Province] Ms. Liu Juhua Taken into Custody in Wuhan City
Ms. Liu Juhua, an elderly teacher at Chibi High School in Huanggang City, is 59 years old. Since July 20, 1999, she has been taken into custody six times. On September 11, Ms. Liu was again taken into custody at her home in the Yujiatou area of Wuhan City.
5. [Binzhou City, Shandong Province] Mr. Qiao Baoming Taken into Custody
Mr. Qiao Baoming, 42, is a Bank of China employee in Binzhou City. On the morning of August 27, 2008, Mr. Qiao was at work when Ding Guorui and Zhang Zizheng, who are in charge of the Binzhou City 610 Office, took him into custody. At around noon, the police searched his home and confiscated electronic books. At around 6:30 p.m. the police searched Mr. Qiao's parents' home and forcibly took the computer and printer. Mr. Qiao's 76-year-old father, who is bedridden because of illness, has been left unattended. His 72-year-old mother, who is a practitioner, has been diligently demanding the release of her son.

6. [Fushun City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Liu Yanqin Held at Masanjia Forced Labor Camp
Ms. Liu Yanqin, 53, lives in Huangdi Village, Tukouzi Township, Qingyuan County, Fushun City. She has been taken into custody several times. In October 1999, she was arrested in Beijing and taken to the local detention center, where she was held for 15 days. In 2001, she was taken to the Wujiabao Forced Labor Camp for appealing on behalf of Falun Gong in Beijing. She was viciously beaten by labor camp guards and released only when she was near death. She recovered swiftly at home and went to Tianjin to work odd jobs to support her family. During this period of time, Wu Zhiping (male), director of the township police station, went to her home several times to extort money. Subsequently, officers from the township police station arrested Ms. Liu in Tianjin and took her to the Wujiabao Forced Labor Camp. At the labor camp she was tortured so severely that she was unrecognizable to those who knew her. In July 2008, as the Beijing Olympics approached, Ms. Liu Yanqin was taken into custody. Officers of the No. 1 Division of the Fushun Police Department viciously beat her. She is being held in the No. 3 Division in the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Her family has been denied visits.
7. [Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Jin Miaoqing, His Wife Ms. Song Li and Their Daughter Ms. Jin Wei Taken into Custody
It has been reported that on September 8, Ms. Jin Wei delivered a letter to Di Daming, chief of the Babaishang Police Department, on behalf of her parents. On September 11, Ms. Jin was taken into custody. Her father Mr. Jin Miaoqing and her mother Ms. Song Li remain in custody.

8. [Anshan City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhang Naijun, around 60 Years Old, Sentenced to Three Years in Prison after Being Arrested During the Beijing Olympics in August
9. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Zuo Gang and Ms. Song Yanjin Face Unlawful Trial
10. [Yanbin Prefecture, Jilin Province] Ms. Zheng Baohua's Home Searched
Between September 9 and September 10, officers from the Toudao Police Station in Helong City, Yanbian Prefecture searched Ms. Zheng Baohua's home. The police confiscated two notebook computers, three printers, and 18,000 yuan in cash. Ms. Zheng Baohua, Ms. Li Fengyun, and Ms. Shen Quanhui are being held at the Xicheng Detention Center in Helong City. Ms. Shen was severely beaten by the police officers and lost consciousness several times.
11. [Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Dong Xuexia Deprived of Sleep for Over 20 Days in Harbin Forced Labor Camp
Ms. Dong Xuexia, who lives in Zhaoyuan Farm, is being unlawfully held in the No. 34 Team at the No. 239 Drug Rehabilitation Center and Forced Labor Camp on Xianfeng Road in Daowai District, Harbin City. She has been deprived of sleep for over 20 days.
Ms. Liu Li, who lives in the Zhaodong area, refused to recite the so-called regulations of the labor camp. As a result, her term has been extended.
Ms. Ning Xiaomei, who lives in the Suiling area, has been deprived of sleep for many days because of her resistance to the persecution.
12. [Shandong Province] Ms. Zhang Zhaochun and Mr. Wang Hanyong Taken into Custody
On the evening of September 11, 2008, Ms. Zhang Zhaochun and Mr. Wang Hanyong, who work at the Hailong Chemical Fiber Company Ltd in Shandong Province, were telling others the facts about Falun Gong when officers from the Xiafei Road Police Station spotted the two practitioners and chased them. They were taken to the Xiafei Road Police Station. On the morning of September 12, both Ms. Zhang and Mr. Wang's homes were searched by the police. They were transferred to the Weifang Detention Center on the afternoon of September 12.
13. [Shandong Province] Approximately 20 Practitioners Held at Jinan City Brainwashing Center
Approximately 20 practitioners are being held at the Jinan City Brainwashing Center, including Ms. Li Pinjie, Ms. Zhang Yan, Ms. Chen Qiuyu, and Mr. Wang Hongzhang, who is from the Jinan Steel Company.
14. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Ms. Xiao Guizhi, in Her Seventies, Unlawfully Placed under House Surveillance
During the Paralympics, officials of the Haigang District Forestry Department in Qinhuangdao City sent people to the home of Ms. Xiao Guizhi to constantly monitor her. Ms. Xiao, in her seventies, is a retired employee of the forestry department. Her husband is no longer alive, and she is living by herself. Because she is being constantly harassed, Ms. Xiao is feeling pressured and stressed.

15. [Hubei Province] Ms. Nan Min Arrested Six Times Since 1999
Ms. Nan Min is a former employee of the Jian'an Company in Luotian County. The Luotian County 610 Office and the deputy chief of the Luotian Police Department have taken her into custody six times since 1999. The police have also extorted over 10,000 yuan from her.
In March 2001, Ms. Nan Min, Ms. Yan Xiaobao, Ms. Ye Donggen and Ms. Qin Chunmei were taken into custody when they refused to attend brainwashing sessions. Ms. Nan was sentenced to five years in prison. Ms. Qin was not taken to a labor camp because of her old age; however, 5,000 yuan was extorted from her. The other two practitioners were sentenced to four years in prison and two years of forced labor. Ms. Nan's husband notified her that she could not return home, because he no longer wanted to be harassed. When she was released in 2006, she had to live temporarily at her son's home. In September 2006, she was taken into custody again and she lost her job at the end of 2006. The police continued to harass her. She had to leave town to work odd jobs. Around August 17 or 18, 2008, Ms. Nan Min was taken into custody in Wuhan City. She is being held at the Luotian No.1 Detention Center. The director of the detention center punched her in the mouth, which then bled profusely.
16. [Jizhou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhou Aihua and Ms. Gao Huanju Taken to Forced Labor Camp
At the end of August 2008, Erzhu, a female practitioner who lives in Laozhouzhuang Hamlet in Nanwu Village, Jizhou City, was sentenced to 15 months of forced labor. Ms. Zhou Aihua and Ms. Gao Huanju were each sentenced to one year of forced labor. The three practitioners are thought to be held at the Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp.
17. [Hebei Province] A Female Practitioner Around 50 Years Old Taken into Custody Near Tangshan Professional School
18. [Yongnian County, Hebei Province] Five Practitioners Taken into Custody and Money Extorted
Five practitioners in Xiaoxibao Village in Yongnian County were taken into custody and money was extorted from them. Ms. Yuan Xiangyin, 60, had 10,000 yuan extorted from her and a television, a DVD player, a radio, and an MP3 player were confiscated, plus she was held for 20 days. 3,000 yuan was extorted from Ms. Xin Zhu, 54, and she was held for five days. Ms. Li Xingdi, 46, was held for two days and had 1,000 yuan taken. Mr. Yan Nian, 51, was held for one day and had 10,000 yuan extorted from him. Mr. Li Junhai's television and radio were taken by the police.

19. [Hefie City, Anhui Province] Ms. Ji Guangxiu Taken into Custody During 2008 Olympics; Currently Held at Xinyu Hotel
20. [Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province] Information on Four Detained Practitioners
On June 25, 2008, Mr. Zhuo Pengyi, Ms. Zhuo Lian, Mr. Jiang Jingui, and Mr. Lu Gaojun were taken from the company they founded by officers from the Dongcheng District Police Station in Ningbo City. The four practitioners are being held at the Ningbo Detention Center. Their company has been shut down.
By July 24, Ms. Zhuo Lian and Mr. Lu Gaojun had been released on parole and a trial is pending. Mr. Zhuo Pengyi and Mr. Jiang Jingui remain in custody.
21. [Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Huo Qianying Taken into Custody for the Fourth Time
Ms. Huo Qianying, 38, was in the military service at the Satellite Monitoring and Control Center in Xi'an. She was discharged because she practiced Falun Gong. She was later employed by the Xi'an Institute of Physical Education.
On August 7, Xu Zhiping (male), director of the Institutes's library, assigned Ms. Huo to be on duty, and then informed the Zhangjiacun Police Station to take Ms. Huo from work to a brainwashing center in the Chang'an County Worker's Rehabilitation Center.
22. [Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Yu Yugui Taken into Custody; Her Home Searched
At around 8:30 p.m. on August 20, 2008, a dozen police officers from the Kunshan City Domestic Security Division, the Joint Security Team, and the Chaoyang District Police Station arrived at Ms. Yu Yugui's home. She was deceived into opening the door for the officers. The officers rushed in without presenting any identification, took her into custody, and searched the place. Ms. Yu is being held at the Kunshan City Detention Center.

23. [Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Dong Jing Detained at Home
On September 3, officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Xiushui County Police Department took Ms. Dong Jing from her home in Xiushui County. Ms. Dong is being held at the Xiushui County Detention Center. Ms. Xiao Jing, another practitioner from Xiushui County, was also taken into custody earlier in Zhejiang Province.
24. [Xinxiang County, Henan Province] Mr. Zhu Haoyou and His Wife Ms. Li Xiu Taken to Forced Labor Camp
After being taken into police custody again, Mr. Zhu Haoyou and his wife Ms. Li Xiu, who live in Maotan Village in Qiliying Town, Xinxiang County, have been sentenced to 18 months of forced labor. Ms. Li has been taken to the Shibalihe Women's Forced Labor Camp. Mr. Zhu suddenly became ill before he was taken to the labor camp and has returned home; however, his forced labor term remains in effect.
25. [Meishan City, Sichuan Province] Four Practitioners Held at a Detention Center in the Suburbs after Being Taken into Custody on September 8
26. [Baiyin City, Gansu Province] Whereabouts of Ms. Li Jinping and Two Other Practitioners Unknown
Ms. Li Jinping, Ms. Liu Hailian and Ms. Jia Shujuan from Huining County, Baiyin City were taken into custody by the Huining County police on April 29, 2008. No information about the three practitioners is available.
27. [Fu'an City, Fujian Province] Mr. Zhang Tingrong Taken into Custody
Mr. Zhong Tingrong, 50, was taken into police custody at his home at around 5:00 p.m. on September 5. Ms. Zhong is being held at the Fu'an City Detention Center.
28. [Guangshui City, Hubei Province] Ms. Sheng Cuilian and Ms. Wang Yanfeng on Hunger Strike in Detention Center
At around 3:00 p.m. on September 4, officers of the Guangshui City Domestic Security Division, the Anlu City Domestic Security Division, and the Jieguan Police Station in Anlu City took Ms. Wang Yanfeng into custody. Ms. Wang shouted, "Falun Dafa is great!" on the way to the detention center. Fang Hong (male), an officer of the Guangshui City Domestic Security Division, viciously beat Ms. Wang. Ms. Sheng and Ms. Wang are being held at the Guangshui City Detention Center and are on a hunger strike. They are brutally beaten every time they refuse to eat. The two practitioners are in extremely weak condition.
29. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Xu of Dongxihu District Held in Erzhigou Area after Being Taken into Custody on the Morning of September 9 for Clarifying the Facts
30. [Chongqing] Mr. Kang Hong Taken to Xishanping Forced Labor Camp
It has been reported that Mr. Kang Hong from Jiangbei District, Chongqing, has been transferred to the Renhe Dispatch Center in Yubei District. The police are planning to take him to the Xishanping Forced Labor Camp. Mr. Gu Shengxu has been missing for over 20 days.
31. [Chongqing] Ms. Guo Chengzhen Detained
On July 29, officers from the Beipei District Police Department in Chongqing, the Jingguan Town 610 Office and the Jingguan Town Police Station broke into Ms. Guo Chengzhen's home in Helu Village. She was taken into custody and officers took possession of her personal property. On July 30, the police broke into Ms. Yan Chaohui's home in Helu Village and Ms. Zhou Feng's home in Qiyi Village. Their homes were searched and Ms. Yan and Ms. Zhou were taken into custody. The three practitioners are being detained at the Beipei Detention Center.
On the afternoon of August 2, Ms. Cheng Lifeng from Helu Village was at work in a factory in Jingguan Garden Village. The same group of police officers rushed into the workplace and took Ms. Cheng into custody, then searched Ms. Cheng's home.
32. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Shi Yingxia and Another Practitioner Detained by Police
On the morning of September 12, officers from the the Yejin Street Police Station and the Hongwei Road Police Station followed the orders given by the Qingshan District Police Department and took Ms. Shi Yingxia, who works in a computer school, Ms. Sun Yuqing and other practitioners into custody. The police searched the practitioners' homes. The director of the Yejin Street Police Station beat a female practitioner who is in her sixties. Ms. Sun Yuqing has been placed in detention on administrative charges for 15 days and she is being held in the Erzhigou area. It is likely that Ms. Shi Yingxia is also being held at the Erzhigou Women's Detention Center.
33. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Ms. Lu Yun Taken into Custody
At 9:00 a.m. on August 30, 2008, officers from the Fangcheng Police Station and from the Weifang City Police Department arrived at Lianhuachi Village in Fangzibutou Township. The officers climbed over an exterior wall and opened Ms. Lu Yun's door with a set of universal keys. Items confiscated by the police were a computer, Falun Dafa books, and DVDs. It is not clear where Ms. Lu Yun, who in her forties, is being held.
34. [Shandong Province] Ms. Song Chunmei Taken into Custody
Around September 1, 2008, Yan Yao, deputy director of the Weibei Police Station, and other officers suddenly broke into Ms. Song Chunmei's home. Ms. Song, in her forties, was taken into custody and her home was searched. Ms. Song is being held at the Weifang City Detention Center.
35. [Hengshui City, Hebei Province] Mr. Wang Yunliang Taken to Forced Labor Camp
On July 24, 2008, Du Changli (male), Zhen Jian (male), director of the Dahezhuang Township Police Station in Anping County, Hengshui City, and half a dozen other officers arrived at Mr. Wang Yunliang's home. They confiscated a computer, a tape recorder, a satellite receiver, a portrait of the founder of Falun Gong, Falun Gong books and materials, and a deposit receipt worth 5,000 yuan, which was later returned. Mr. Wang was taken into custody. He was sentenced to 15 months of forced labor and taken to the Handan Forced Labor Camp on August 7, 2008. Mr. Wang's mother, who is in her eighties, has been left at home unattended.
36. [Datong City, Shanxi Province] Ms. Xu Xiucai Taken into Custody
Ms. Xu Xiucai, a retired worker, was turned in to the police for clarifying the facts about Falun Gong on August 10, 2008. She was taken to the police department and then transferred to the Datong County Detention Center, where she was held for one week. On August 18, she was taken to the Xindian Women's Forced Labor Camp and is serving an 18-month term.
37. [Zhucheng City, Shandong Province] Ms. Meng Qingying Taken to Forced Labor Camp
On November 8, 2008, the police searched Ms. Meng Qingying's home in West Jiayue Village in Jiayue Town, Zhucheng City. Ms. Meng was taken to the Zhucheng City Detention Center. On December 3, 2007, she was taken to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp and is serving a two-year term.
38. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Ms. Shi Wenjing Taken into Custody
At 5:00 a.m. on July 9, a dozen officers from the Dayu Police Station in Kuiwen District, Weifang City, led by an officer with the surname Dai, broke into Ms. Shi Wenjing's home. The officers searched her home and confiscated a dozen Falun Dafa books, some brochures, and a computer. Ms. Shi took her daughter to her mother's home on July 7, and was able to elude the police. Recently, the residential committee, the neighborhood administration office officials, and police officers have escalated the harassment of practitioners in their homes. On August 18, Dai and four other officers took Ms. Shi into custody while she was at work. Ms. Shi was taken to the Weifang City Detention Center. Her daughter, who is in the fourth grade, and her father-in-law, who is in his seventies, have been left at home alone.

40. [Guangshui City, Hubei Province] Several Practitioners Taken into Custody
On September 9, two female practitioners went to clarify the truth in several villages in the Gaodian area in Taiping Township. They were taken into custody by the Taiping Township police on their way home.
Last week, Ms. Sheng Cuilian and Ms. Wang Yanfeng were placed in custody by officers from the Guangshui City 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division and they were taken to the Guangshui City Detention Center. Ms. Sheng and Ms. Wang were released in March 2008, after their lives were in imminent danger because they were both on hunger strikes. This time the police are planning to sentence the two practitioners to prison.
