(Clearwisdom.net) As the Beijing Olympics approach, under the pretext of ensuring a so-called "good environment" for the Olympics, arrests of Falun Gong practitioners are on the rise. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) secretly began issuing arrest quotas in February 2008. It is required that all the arrests be completed before the Olympics starts and that all practitioners whose names appeared on the Internet are targeted.
During the past five months, since February 2008, Mudanjiang City Police Department officials and those from the 610 Office, and others from Muling City Police Department and Hailin Police Department have carried out more than 20 arrests, many occurring on June 30, 2008. In conjunction with illegal home searches, Muling City Police officials have arrested these practitioners. Many practitioners decided to leave home to avoid arrest.
The Arrests in Mudanjiang City
On the afternoon of June 30, 2008, practitioners Li Haifeng and Chang Dabin were arrested at the Longmen Market. The police searched Chang Dabin's home and confiscated a computer, printer and personal belongings. Practitioner Bei Liang was arrested at home that same day. More details are under investigation.
At about 1:00 p.m. on June 30, 2008, practitioners Fu Jun and Yo from Anming Village were arrested in their homes.
Practitioners Li Shogang from Shuangfeng Village and Han Rongqing from Yanglin Village in Hailin City were also arrested on June 30, 2008.
Practitioner Ms. Li Yunhua, who worked outside the Mudanjiang region but returned to help her son prepare for the college entrance exam, was arrested at her relative's home in the Yangming region.
Practitioner Zhao Yun was arrested on July 2, 2008. Details are unclear.
Officers from the Hailin Farm Police Station recently arrived at a farm sugar refinery to question practitioner Ms. Wang Yanqin as to whether she had distributed Dafa materials and copies of the "Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party." Police officer Zhang Yanhuei is still looking for Ms. Wang.
In Early April 2008, Domestic Security Division Agents from Muling City and Mudanjiang City Arrested Many Practitioners
Mr. Gong Chengge was arrested on April 17, 2008, and detained outside the region at the Mulin Detention Center. His arrest was recently formally approved and he is now in the Mulin City No. 1 Detention Center. He had been arrested many times for his belief in Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance.
Mr. Wu Guoli was arrested at his rented apartment in the Mudanjiang region in early April 2008 and has been imprisoned in Muling City Detention Center since. Early in the morning on April 3, 2008, Zhou Xinsheng from the Domestic Security Division covered Mr. Wu's face and took him from his cell. Mr. Wu was returned to his cell that night. It is unknown what happened to Mr. Wu that day.
Mr. Zhao Guojian was arrested again on April 11, 2008. On November 12, 2007, Mr. Zhao and Ms. Zhu Xiuhua were arrested. Officers from the Chaishi Police Station participated in the arrests and tortured the practitioners during their detention. Officers from the Mudanjiang City Domestic Security Division took turns interrogating them and deprived them of sleep and rest for several days. Officer Guo Liang kicked Mr. Zhao in the mouth and knocked out several teeth. Officer Peng Fuming tied Mr. Zhao with ropes twice. Officer Qiao Ping struck Mr. Zhao across the face with his shoe and threatened to send Mr. Zhao to a forced labor camp.
Ms. Song Weirun is a business owner with a good reputation. Her husband died at a young age, and she raised their child by herself. Early in the morning on March 20, 2008, Chen Liang and other officers from the Aimin District Domestic Security Division arrested Ms. Song at her home and took her Falun Dafa books and other personal property. Ms. Song was released several hours later after 5,000 yuan had been extorted from her. On April 11, 2008, Mudanjiang City Domestic Security Division agents arrested her again. She is now imprisoned in the No. 2 Detention Center.
On April 10, 2008, Mr. Sun Fa, who rented an apartment in the Mudanjiang region, was arrested by officers from the Mudanjiang City Domestic Security Division at a farm products distribution center in the Xian District.
On April 11, 2008, members of the Wuxing Neighborhood Committee ordered Mr. Jia Changmin to appear at their headquarters. When he did, two officers from the Mudanjiang City Police Department, officer Zhao Mingzhe from the Caishi Police Station, and agent Zhao and agent Mi from the Huayuan Community Committee searched Mr. Jia's home. It has been reported that Mr. Jia is being held in the Mudanjiang City No. 2 Detention Center.
Ms. Dong Guilan, in her 60s, lives in the August 1st Square area in Mudanjiang City. Officers from the Mudanjiang City Police Department arrested Ms. Dong and Ms. Ai in mid April 2008.
Mr. Dai Qihong, a guard in Mudanjiang Prison, was arrested near the Mudanjiang Airport while distributing truth clarification materials. On March 20, 2008, officers from the Mudanjiang City Domestic Security Division and the Yanjiang Police Station searched Mr. Dai's home. He is now in the Mudanjiang Detention Center.
Mr. Hou Xicai works at Mudanjiang Prison in the accounting office. He refused to write the three statements. Chinese Communist Party members tried to coerce him into writing a repentance statement and even made his family try to persuade him to, but he steadfastly refused. Mr. Hou was arrested by agents from the 610 Office and officers from the Domestic Security Division, around March 28, 2008. He is imprisoned in Mudanjiang Detention Center.
The Sorry Fates of Individuals That Persecuted Falun Gong
Tian Lijun (male), former secretary of the Politics and Law Committee in Mudanjiang City, actively participated in the persecution of Falun Gong. He died from cancer in his 50s. Li Changqing, Mudanjiang City 610 Office head and deputy secretary of the Politics and Law Committee in Mudanjiang City, also actively participated in the persecution and refused to take the advice of practitioners, to change his ways. He died of cancer on July 22, 2007. He was also in his 50s.
Han Jian, the former Mudanjiang City Police Department chief, was involved in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners that resulted in at least 11 deaths. The deaths occurred in Mudanjiang Police Department and the detention center. Dozens of practitioners were illegally sentenced, more than 100 practitioners were sent to forced labor camps or detained and subjected to brainwashing, and more than 2,000 were put under surveillance. Han Jian was eventually sentenced to life imprisonment for corruption and his property was confiscated.
Aimin District Court deputy administrator Sun Baolian, who was responsible for illegally sentencing Dafa practitioners, was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in May 2003. His cancer has now progressed and he is unable to work.
Li Yanchuen, Mulin City Domestic Security Division political head, was frequently involved in the persecution. In September and October 2004, he was involved in arresting three older practitioners at Xiachenzili as they were clarifying the truth. Each family was forced to pay 6,000 yuan. The families not only had to bear the financial burden but also had to deal with the mental stress. In September and October 2005, police officers Li Yanchun and Zhou Xingsheng and others from a detention center interrogated Mr. Sun Shiwei (an experienced teacher at the Mulin City Advanced Education School) and other practitioners using torture. Each time Mr. Sun returned to his cell, he had blood on his face and several times was unconscious. In May 2006, Li Yanchun questioned Ms. Zhu Liyan using torture. As a result Ms. Zhu had difficulty raising her arms and holding a spoon to eat. Li Yanchun's wife, Zhen Bo, suffered a stroke and didn't recovery despite seeking many kinds of treatment.
Muling City 610 Office chief Fan Wenming and the deputy secretary for the Politics and Law Committee were heavily involved in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. When Mr. Sun Shiwei had served his term in 2002 and detention center officials had contacted the 610 Office for Mr. Sun's release form, Fan Weming used his political power to extend Mr. Sun's forced labor time by several months. In June 2006, Fan nearly lost vision in one of his eyes.
