(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Zhu Yubiao, a lawyer from Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, was released on April 30 after one and a half years in a forced labor camp.
Zhu Yubiao had worked for Guangda Law Office and Hengyi Law Office in Guangdong Province. He was arrested by officers from Fanyu Dashi Police Station and Guangzhou City State Security Brigade because he tried many cases for Falun Gong practitioners.
After he was arrested and detained, he was beaten and tortured by police officers. The methods of torture included the tiger bench, suffocating by use of wet towels, attempted drowning, lashing fingers and toes, and sleep deprivation, among other methods. Zhu had been on a hunger strike three times to protest the brutal persecution. During the hunger strikes, the police held Mr. Zhu down and force-fed him.
During the period of time he was held in detention, Zhu Yubiao tried to appeal his illegal sentence, but he was deprived of that right. The Guangzhou Judicature Bureau suspended Zhu's certificate to practice law for one year. Mr. Zhu appealed to the Guangzhou City Yuexiu District Judicature Bureau for his case, but he has not received a response. In addition, his work unit was punished by the government, and as a result, Mr. Zhu was not hired back.
Zhu Yubiao was released and sent home on April 30, 2008. He has almost completely recovered.
