During the intermission, the reporter asked them what they thought about the show. Ken said, "It's absolutely wonderful!" Marlene added, "It's even better than we thought it would be. The costumes are beautiful. It's just wonderful!"
Bakalis said, "I liked the excitement brought by the drummers, the beauty of the dancers, and their discipline. I also liked the colors and music. What was advertised looked good, but the real show is bigger and better. Very exciting."
Ken's grandson Todd Jones is an engineering student at Princeton University, and he is learning Chinese. Ken said, "Last summer, he spent seven weeks in Beijing, and he told us quite a bit about China."
Todd said, "I started to learn Chinese in June the past summer. I was in China for two and a half months. I visited twelve cities and we were able to see a lot of the country. It was very good. We also saw the Peking Opera."
About the Chinese New Year Splendor, Todd said, "It's nice to hear the English explanation of what was going on. We didn't have that in Beijing. The show is really good!"
Todd continued, "I liked the drummers, the dancing and the performance of the three women in prison ("The Risen Lotus Flower"). It began with the four guys wearing jackets with images of the sickle and the hammer, the Communist symbols. It sent a strong message. It was really good."
