An Elderly Man's Cultivation in a Family of Four Generations

Revered Teacher! Fellow practitioners:

In May 1995, I began practicing Falun Gong. At that time, I suffered from a terminal illness and my family was poor. Through my practice of Dafa, I was completely healed, and the changes in me encouraged the other members of my family to become practitioners.

Focusing on Saving the World's People

After 2000, Teacher published many articles which helped me acquire a better understanding about Fa-rectification. I learned about the interference arranged by the old forces against Fa-rectification, and of their intention to harm the world's people. I know that our purpose is to improve our character through cultivation, to extinguish evil, and save people. I traveled to the agricultural areas to distribute the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, fact sheets about Falun Gong, and various truth-clarification materials. I gave different materials to each family depending upon their situation, such as their level of education, and personal backgrounds. One one occasion, a businessman came to my village and I took the opportunity to tell him the facts about Falun Gong. He said, "My family members like to read materials about premonitions. Could you find some articles or books for us?" The next day, I brought him the materials that he requested, and a few days later I sent him some Dafa music and songs, and helped his family to withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its two affiliated organizations (known as the "three withdrawals"). After awhile, five of his family members told me that they also wanted to study Dafa.

I was recently reading a Dafa book in a public area while waiting for a bus. A worker came over to look at what I was reading. I continued with my reading calmly. After I finished reading a few pages, she said, "Do you have more books like this?" I said, "Yes, but not very many." She replied "Could you find one for me?" I answered "I will do my best." She then gave me her phone number and address. A few days later, I brought the Nine Commentaries, Disintegrate Party Culture, and Jiang Zemin, the Man to her office. She was very pleased to see me and asked, "Do you know what my job is?" I said, "No I don't." "I am a discipline inspector. I like all the reading materials you brought me, so if you have more, please bring them to me" I told her I would. Over the next few days I visited her often and brought more truth-clarifying materials for her to distribute to other workers in her office building. With her help, over two hundred workers quit the CCP, and over thirty of them read more Dafa books. Over one hundred of these people worked at the Public Security Office, the Court House, and People's Procuratorate. I didn't encounter any difficulties while delivering Dafa and other truth-clarifying materials to them.

In 2004, we began to spread the Fa to the surrounding cities. We went to places where there was little Dafa information, and distributed truth-clarifying materials there. Our purpose was to cover all the surrounding city areas. Following discussions with fellow practitioners, we instead began having face-to-face conversations with people. Our approach was to start with family members and their relatives, then extend our contact to friends and neighbors. By 2007, 950f the people in my village had withdrawn from the Chinese Communist Party, the Communist Youth League and the Young Pioneers. For people who lived in the neighboring towns, we gathered phone numbers and addresses of government agencies and business institutions, then called or sent short letters to them. We explained the value of performing the "three withdrawals." If they decided against this action, we would tell them to remember to say, "Falun Dafa is Good."

Saving People Requires Continuous Self-cultivation

In "Teaching the Fa at the Conference in New Zealand." in 1999, Teacher said:

"They know that since they are students, they should study hard. Then naturally they do well. As long as they study hard and complete their tasks, they will be admitted to good schools or be accepted to college. It's not achieved through being attached to good schools, or to high scores, or to college. I often say this: when people obsess about the thought of doing something or want to obtain something, the result is often quite the opposite; when you merely think about how to do well in something, it will naturally come about."

Similarly, we have the attachment of expecting the evil party to collapse and to complete the Fa-rectification as soon as possible. This attachment is similar to a high school student who expects to attend college, but does not pay attention to his studies. Teacher told us to do the three things, but how well have we accomplished them? What is the state of our own cultivation? What tangible results do we achieve after we send forth righteous thoughts? Have we saved all the people that we are supposed to? The existence of the evil party is to provide Dafa practitioners with opportunities to save people and to develop their mighty virtue. The evil party would no longer be necessary if we have played our roles well. The fact that the evil party still exists means that we have more work to do. We need to focus more on improving our character and clarifying the truth to more people.

One day I was sitting on a public bus when a pregnant woman came on board. I stood up and let her take my seat. When she arrived at her destination, she said to me, "Thanks for the seat." I told her to remember, "Falun Dafa is good." Then, a seventy year-old man got on the bus. Again, I let him have my seat. When he was ready to leave, I told him to remember, "Falun Dafa is good." Later, an eighty year-old man boarded the bus, and I said to him, "Please sit here." The driver witnessed my actions and asked, " What kind of work do you do?" I replied "I am a Falun Gong practitioner." Everyone on the bus was watching me, while the driver said, "You are the living Lei Feng [a moral exemplar in China in the 1950s and '60s]. You gave your seat to others three times. People who practice Falun Dafa are truly providing a service to the public. They are good people." I said, "Ladies and gentlemen, please remember that Falun Dafa is good. Dafa can help you to obtain a bright future." After hearing what I said, seven of the people on the bus withdrew from the CCP. The driver asked for my phone number and said, "I hope to see you again." After this event, I realized that it is not difficult to spread the facts and to save people. What is important is whether we have the compassion to consistently do so.

In order to save people, we must do the three things well and focus on continually cultivating ourselves. Every thought must conform to the Fa. To improve our characters we must meet the requirements of the Fa. Once these requirements are met, we should do our best not to violate the customs and traditions of society. We must help and support everyday people, wherever and whenever possible. This way, people will appreciate us and we will be in a better position to save them.

Before we can do the three things well, we must thoroughly study the Fa. We must use the Fa to purify our minds and bodies so that we can save people and follow the path set by Teacher. This way, we can accomplish what we are supposed to do and return home with Teacher.
