(Clearwisdom.net) A three-day conference of the European Union was held in Strasbourg, France from October 21 to 23, 2008. During the conference, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)'s violations of human rights caught much attention.
Throughout the conference, supporters of NTDTV from many European countries conducted an appeal in front of the European Parliament building and condemned Eutelsat for its cutoff of NTDTV's signal to Asia under pressure from the CCP with the excuse of "technical problems." The supporters called on the European Union to help NTDTV to resume the broadcast signal to Asia and won support from many parties.

On October 22, three members of the European Parliament and representatives of NTDTV held a joint press conference, calling on the European Union and the current EU chairman, President Sarkozy of France, to take immediate action to have Eutelsat resume NTDTV's signal to Asia. MP Marco Cappato of Italy said freedom of press and human rights are universal values and members of the European Parliament have a duty to safeguard them.
Director Manyan Ng of IFGM, the International Society for Human Rights, the largest human rights organization in Germany, pointed out, "Because of the CCP regime's control of the media, SARS, the persecution of Falun Gong and the recent tainted milk incident developed to a severe level that should have been avoided. I sincerely hope that the European Union can stand together this time to resist the CCP's pressure."
