On September 1, 2001, Dafa practitioner Han Shufen from Chengde City, Hebei Province, was taken to a brainwashing center against her will. They demanded that she write four letters to denounce Falun Gong. Han Shufen refused to do so, so the authorities asked her employer and family to pressure her.

On November 21, 2001, Han Shufen went to Beijing to speak up for Dafa. She was arrested in Tiananmen Square. Han Shufen then went on hunger strike to protest. Han Shufen was arrested again and sent to Chengde brainwashing center on the 24th. There she was beaten and force fed. As a result Han Shufen continued to spit blood for more than twenty days, and her hands and feet became dark blue. During the night she escaped from a window.

After she escaped, officials of the brainwashing center looked for her everywhere. They even went to Han Shufen's home asking for money. They threatened Han Shufen's husband and forced him to give money, so he gave them six thousand Yuan. They then ransacked the house. A hundred thousand Yuan deposit book of hers went missing at that time.

On June 19, 2003, when Han Shufen was buying something in a store, she was kidnapped for the third time by the State Security Division of Shuangqiao Branch; she was once again sent to a brainwashing center. In the class, Yang Dapeng verbally abused and beat Han Shufen. They didn't let her go back to her room until midnight. The next day, Han Shufen felt very dizzy, and could not get up.

Officials from the brainwashing class again went to Han Shufen's home to ask for money. They ordered her family to give them five thousand Yuan. After two months, Han Shufen still did not agree to write the four letters, and refused to give up Falun Gong. They sent Han Shufen to Hebei Province's Gaoyang Labor Camp.
