(Clearwisdom.net) On May 3, 2006, Austin Falun Gong practitioners rallied to protest the Chinese Communist regime's atrocities of harvesting organs from living practitioners. Dave Burnstein of KTU News reported the event. Below is the transcript of his report:
About 15 Falun Gong practitioners held signs and passed out fliers to passers-by. Leader said that was about half of Austin's Falun Gong population.
Demonstrator Lilian Wu said that religious persecution landed her in a Chinese jail, and later what she called a brainwashing facility.
Lilian Wu: "I was arrested twice. The first time, I was detained for more than a month, and the police tortured me."
Rally organizer and fellow Falun Gong practitioner William Cheng also grew up in China. His wife was arrested on similar charges. Cheng said the authorities go after more mainstream religions as well.
"They want to know what exactly you do and what activities you attend. That is why precisely why there are so many people who believe in Christianity go underground. There are a lot of underground churches and they are also severely persecuted under the Communist regime. "
A U.S. State Department spokesman said that they are looking into charges of religious persecution in China. Some of those charges include allegations that members of Falun Gong have had their organs harvested after being arrested and executed in China.
