(Clearwisdom.net) The historical documentary Shake the World, made by Shenzhou Film Studio, premiered at Weschler Theatre at American University in Washington, DC, on October 13, 2006. It will be shown on university campuses all over the world.
Shake the World is a Chinese movie with English subtitles. It exposes to the world the initial stage of the brutal persecution of Falun Gong, launched on July 20, 1999, by the Chinese Communist Party. Ding Yan, the main character, takes us through a part of history that should not be forgotten, experiencing world-shaking events: the Beijing News Conference held by Falun Gong practitioners in China in October 1999, the magnificence of the Guangzhou Fa Conference in November 1999, and many more events that are based on reality. The movie is both about the horrors of the persecution and the beauty of Falun Gong practitioners' uncompromising spirit in the sface of the red terror.
A professor from the Department of Political Science at American University told the director that, before the show began, he had just come to give his support, because he had to leave early. But the movie was so compelling that he stayed till the end. He was excited and said, "It is truly wonderful. I didn't want to leave. The persecution is really severe. You must let more people know about it."
The audience applauded the movie. A professor from the Department of Film said: "It is a very impressive story. Amazing. I was very touched. I felt that I became Ding Yan and experienced the brutal persecution." A student from the Department of Film said that she also was very touched. She said that she had heard about the persecution of Falun Gong, but she didn't know the details. She learned from the movie that Falun Gong practitioners are very kind and that the persecution is very brutal. She said that the movie was very educational and that the English subtitles were not an obstacle to understanding the movie.
A student, who is majoring in international relations, said: "This is my first time to learn about the persecution of Falun Gong in detail. I will pay more attention to it. I really appreciate the movie."
Lucy, a Chinese spectator, said: "I think that the movie reflects the history well. It should be shown all over the world, letting more people, especially Chinese people, know about the persecution. In China, people cannot learn about the truth, due to the media blockout, and they won't believe that the persecution is so brutal if they don't know the truth. We should let more Chinese people know about it."
Reporters from the Eagle, the American University student newspaper, also came to the premier and took photos. Shake the World, the first movie by Shenzhou Film Studio, will be showed in universities in the US, Germany, Taiwan, Canada, Japan, Korea, England, and other countries.
