Facts of the Persecution

1. Evil Deeds in the Harbin Female Prison

The building where Falun Gong practitioners are detained in Harbin Female Prison has four floors. The third and fourth floors are sick wards. The third floor is also used as a base for "transforming" Falun Gong practitioners. This floor is divided into west and east sections. The head of the west section is Xu Zhen, who was assigned by the Prison Director Liu Zhiqiang to focus on "transforming" Falun Gong practitioners. The west section has four rooms, each of which confines one practitioner. Five or six ruthless criminal inmates take turns, day and night, trying to force Falun Dafa practitioners to give up their beliefs. To accomplish this, these thugs employ such tortures as forced standing for extensive periods, sitting in one position for extended periods, physical beatings, verbal abuse, sleep deprivation and administering nerve-damaging drugs by both injections and forced-feeding. A 65-year-old practitioner named Wu Yulan has been detained on the third floor since December of 2004. She is frequently deprived of sleep, beaten, cursed at and forced to sit upright until 2 o'clock in the morning. Another third floor practitioner, 60-year-old Huang Yanzhen, also refuses to give up practicing Falun Gong. The vicious guards beat her after first covering her in quilts so that no bruises will appear on her skin. Her blood pressure is sometimes as high as 200 due to the extreme torture. A practitioner whose name is unknown was detained on a second floor ward and handcuffed continuously day and night. Li Yushu, a practitioner detained on the first floor, has been on a hunger strike for ten months. Every day her hands are tied up with ropes and her mouth is sealed with tape. Despite these persecutions, she does not give up. Practitioner Qu Jie was tortured by guards trying to force her to give up practicing Falun Gong; her blood pressure increased dramatically due to this, and she subsequently died of heart failure.

2. High School Teacher Persecuted for Clarifying the Truth About Falun Gong, Military Husband Implicated by Marriage Ties

Yu Banglian, female, 35 years old, is a teacher at the Second High School in the Changshou District of Chongqing City, Sichuan Province. Her 5-year-old child attends kindergarten. Her 37-year-old husband, Yi Qingsong, is a Major General in the Hainan Province Fleet. On March 15, 2005, Yu Banglian came across a colleague in the Lizhou Supermarket and gave this person a greeting card with "Zhen-Shan- Ren" written on it. When one of the supermarket's security personnel witnessed this, they seized Ms. Yu and took her to the Fengshan Police Station. The police later ransacked Ms. Yu's home. The local 610 Office reported this incident to the Military Committee and informed the Hainan Province Fleet, the Fleet's commander and Ms. Yu's husband. The head of the 610 Office claimed that since Ms. Yu broke the law her husband should also be considered responsible.
