On the night of April 2, 2005, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Liu Yumei from Fushun City, Liaoning Province was arrested and her home was ransacked. Information about her current whereabouts is not available. We surmise that the Fushun Police are responsible for her disappearance.
Three police officers from the Wanghua District Putun Police Station had previously arrested her younger sister, Ms. Liu Yuqing. After her arrest, she suffered all kinds of brutal torture, such as merciless beatings and sleep deprivation. On April 13, 2002, she died as a result of the torture. She was only 40 years old.
Ms. Liu Yumei is in her fifties and was the manager of the Fushun Petroleum Collective No. 3. After July 20, 1999, her former workplace succumbed to pressure exerted by the government and forced her to give up her job seniority.
Ms. Liu went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong and was detained. Later, she was arrested and tortured a few more times. During one of her detentions, she started a hunger strike in protest but was force-fed. This procedure was so painful that she tried to escape by jumping from a sixth floor window. The fall caused her to fracture her pelvis, lumbar vertebrae and her left wrist. The police would not take responsibility for this incident, so they sent her back home. Afterwards, nobody thought that she would ever be able to stand upright again, but three months later, Ms. Liu was able to walk on her own, which astonished everyone. She thus demonstrated the power of Dafa to those around her.
In 2002, government agents in Tieling arrested Ms. Liu yet again. She was released only after a three-month-long hunger strike. On April 2, 2005, she was arrested again and has since disappeared.
