Two Falun Gong practitioners, Ng Chye Huay and Cheng Lujin, who practiced the Falun Gong exercises and introduced Falun Gong and the persecution happening in China at the Esplanade Park on February 23, 2003, were charged by the police in May 2004. Each of them faced eight and seven charges including "assembly without a permit" and "possessing and mailing out uncertified VCDs."

At noon on April 28, 2005, San Francisco Falun Gong practitioners appealed outside the Singapore Consulate in San Francisco, requesting that the Singapore government immediately release the innocent Falun Gong practitioners. They also called on the Singapore government not to act as an accomplice of the CCP, and immediately stop participating in the persecution.

According to a report from AFP on April 27, two Falun Gong practitioners were detained in Singapore on Wednesday after refusing to pay court-imposed fines for handing out VCDs in public that promoted their spiritual belief, their lawyer said.
