Mr. Shi Yan, sentenced to an 11-year-term, is being held in the third sub-district of the seventh prison district. He is exposing the persecution he has experienced in the prison to the public. These acts of persecution include: extortion of confession by torture, merciless and inhuman beating, and being restrained in an iron chair for more than 40 days. Before the 2003 National Day, inmate Xu Haiying attacked Mr. Shi and beat him fiercely on his chest. The attack caused serious internal injury, and Mr. Shi spit up blood at the time. This happened even though the prison guard was present on the scene.
Mr. Zhang Junmin, 43 years old, from Hugejin Village of Liushouying Town in Funing County, was abducted for making copies of Falun Dafa truth clarification materials. He was sentenced to a seven-year-term and has been illegally imprisoned in the seventh prison district. In revealing the facts of his persecution, Mr. Zhang said, "I was confined in a guard room because I practiced Falun Gong exercises in the prison on December 15, 2001. Although it was extremely cold, the police opened the window and let the cold wind blow in. After three days, I told them that they totally lacked human decency. I would not eat and promised to expose their actions on the Internet. This frightened them, and they sealed the window. I had been so badly beaten in the 'transformation' class that I could no longer see things clearly. My stomach hurt and was swollen, and I was forced to sit on an upside down stool, its four legs up in the air, for three days and nights."
Mr. Wang Bin, 36 years old, from the Yunhe District in Cangzhou City, was arrested on August 20, 2001. He was sentenced to an 11-year-term and illegally imprisoned in the fourth sub-district of the seventh prison district. In exposing the persecution he has experienced in the prison he said, "From February 25 through March 17, 2003, I was tortured for more than 20 days. Those responsible for this persecution from the so-called 'Education Division' include Wang Guobin, the division head; Yue Yuhai, the associate division head; Li Like; Zhao Jun; Zhang Zhonglin; and Li Yabin, a former policeman in the 12th prison district. The prison inmates involved include Liu Ximing; Chen Guoquan; and Ma Shujun, who has been released. Instructed by the police, these three inmates beat me mercilessly. They did not let me sleep for 24 hours and used bamboo switches to rap my fingertips."
Mr. Xia Xingmin, a 52-year-old cadre in the Changzheng Automobile Manufacturing Plant in Xingtai City, was abducted on September 28, 2001, because he made copies of Falun Dafa truth-clarifying materials and distributed them. He was sentenced to a nine-year-term and illegally jailed in the third sub-district of the fifth prison district. He is revealing the facts of his inhuman persecution. "They tortured me for nearly two months between September 28 and November 21, 2001, to extort a confession from me. During that time, the wicked police, led by Wei Jikao, the deputy political commissar of the Xingtai City Police Department, brutally tortured and beat me. They knocked me down on the floor, stuck a four-legged stool on my back, and then one of the policemen sat on it. Then they used electric batons to shock and beat me mercilessly. After my mouth was torn and bleeding, they stuffed a dirty, bloody towel into it. I was then restrained for three days in an "iron chair", which was specially designed to torture practitioners. They used a wooden stick about an inch thick and 24 inches long to beat my back and legs. The areas that were beaten turned purple and black, and the pain was unbearable. They also whipped my head and body with a leather belt. My ears became swollen from being struck so many times. On November 17, Wei Jikao first used a wooden stick to fiercely hit my head. He beat me so hard that the stick broke into pieces. Then he kicked my head with his boots until my head was bleeding. The blood poured out for a long time. In order to get credit and be rewarded, they filmed and edited a false videotape of me to deceive people. In March 2003, four violent prison inmates strictly monitored me in a "transformation" class in the Fourth Prison. I was forced to sit on an upside down stool and forbidden to sleep or take a nap for five days, 24 hours a day."
Mr. Lei Zhongfu, 48 yeas old, lives at 302, Building 21-6, Chatouhechan Beili, Chaoyang District, Beijing, and works at the Second Bureau of the First Construction Company. He was abducted from home on March 9, 2002. Mr. Lei was sentenced to a three-year-term and illegally detained in the fourth sub-district of the fifth prison district. Revealing the facts his persecution he said: "On March 9, 2002, I was tortured for ten days in a concentration camp in the Tongzhou District. The camp guards did not let me sleep, and they beat me. One time, 10 guards beat me mercilessly. Some of them used boots and broomsticks to beat me, some of them punched me, and others slapped my face. Moreover, 10 more guards swarmed all over me and pushed me to the ground. They held a pen in my hand and wrote a guarantee statement. At the time, I was almost crushed to death. After I lay prone for several hours under a table, I felt a little better. My chest was injured and in pain for more than a month. At the camp they held a series of brainwashing sessions. They made a series of video programs that slander and defame Falun Dafa, and they forced practitioners to watch them. They also forced practitioners to report their 'understandings' against their will. At the detention center, any money that your family brought in was almost always stolen or taken away. Most of the time, I slept on the cement floor. The dampness of the floor caused me to develop eczema and encouraged the spread of scabies. Later, I suffered various kinds of dermatitis for a very long time."
Mr. Liu Huimin, 36 years old, is a cadre at the Government Boarding House in Qinglong County, Qinhuangdao City. Mr. Liu was abducted on August 2, 2000, when he reported to the government the injustices that Falun Dafa and its practitioners were suffering. He was sentenced to a five-year-term and jailed in the seventh sub-district of the fifth prison district. He recounted the inhuman persecution he has been subjected to: "On August 20, 2000, when I was on a hunger strike to protest the persecution in the detention center, policemen, the head of the detention center Jin, and Deputy Director Zhang Xi beat me mercilessly. In April and June 2001, I was beaten viciously twice by violent inmates. The beating broke my eardrum and diminished my ability to hear. In March and April 2002, when I was being persecuted in the brainwashing sessions, they beat me and broke a rib on my left side."
Mr. Guo Hongshan, 48 years old, used to work at the security division of the Yaohua Glass General Plant in Qinhangdao City. He lived in No. 9, Suite 3, Unit 18, Building 156, Qiaodongbeili in the Haigang District. Mr. Guo was abducted from home on May 14, 2001, sentenced to a ten-year-term, and imprisoned in the eleventh prison district. Mr. Guo tells about his brutal treatment: "My wife and I were abducted when we went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. We were illegally detained for 30 days and experienced all kinds of torture. The Electrical Machinery Plant where my wife worked fired her because of her act. In February 2000, I was again illegally detained for 45 days, and my workplace consequently fired me. On May 14, 2001, a policeman came to my home and deceived me into accompanying him to the local police department branch office. They tried to force me to admit the fabricated charges, but I firmly refused. Seven or eight policemen then beat me with wooden sticks. They beat me so hard that they broke some of the sticks. My skin was lacerated from the beating. Over the seven or eight hours of vicious beating, I do not know how many times I fainted. Although I had sustained countless injuries over my entire body, they still did not stop torturing me. They handcuffed my hands on a specially made torture chair. While I was in detention, my wife went to see the head of the police department branch office Chief Peng about getting me released. Instead, the malicious police sent my wife to a mental hospital for ten months of torture. In that same district where I lived, another practitioner named Ms. Zhang Deyi, who lived at Suite 1, Unit 33, Qiaodongnanli in the Haigang District, was sent to a forced labor camp for three years. Because Ms. Zhang protested the persecution, she was sent to Tangshang Mental Hospital and persecuted there."
Mr. Niu Mingang, 40 years old and an assistant manager at the Railroad Freight Transportation Terminal, lived at Unit 18-3-503, No. 16 Railroad Dormitory in Shijiazhuang City. Mr. Niu was abducted from home on October 3, 2001; sentenced to a 12-year-term; and imprisoned at the eighth prison district. According to Mr. Niu: "I was abducted from home on October 3, 2001, and later illegally detained at the police station for five days. In November 2001, when a policeman was persecuting me at the Hesi Boarding House eastbound on Tiyu Avenue South, he announced, 'Many Falun Gong practitioners have been killed, because our superiors have issued an order that if we beat a Falun Gong practitioner to death, it will be counted as suicide.'
"On July 20, 1999, I went to the provincial government to appeal for Falun Gong. The provincial government did nothing, claiming that the central government in Beijing was responsible for the persecution. Therefore, my fellow practitioners and I went to Beijing to appeal, but policemen brutally attacked us and prevented us from getting to the capital. My workplace also suspended me and put me on probation for one year. For a month, beginning November 14, 2001, I was confined to room 104 at the Hesi Boarding House. They handcuffed me to an iron chair for the first 18 days. I was not allowed to sleep. Yan Shengkai, deputy captain of the political security brigade of the Xinhua Police Department, instructed his subordinates to follow his lead in pounding repeatedly on my handcuffs for 8 to 12 hours. They slapped my ears numerous times; "roasted" me with fire; blew smoke in my face; burned me with cigarette butts; and used police sticks and belts to hit me innumerable times. They used a wooden shoe brush and other hard objects to pound the top of my head numerous times. They pummeled and kicked me and used needles to prick my fingers. They also used other methods, which are hard to describe, to torture me. They tortured me until I was as thin as a board. Both my hands and buttocks festered. My swollen body was dark purple. Even today, my limbs still do not function well, and I often experience pain, numbness, and swelling in my hands and feet."
Mr. Chai Baohua, 48 years old, from Chaizhuangzi Village of Fengjiakou Town, Nanpi County, was abducted on March 25, 2002 , while distributing Falun Dafa truth-clarification material. He was sentenced to seven years imprisonment and illegally jailed in the fifth sub-district of the fifth prison district. Mr. Chai recounts his inhuman persecution: "On July 23, 1999, I rode a bike for three days to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. After I was arrested and sent back, I was detained for 16 days. In 2000, police searched my home and found Falun Dafa books, so they illegally imprisoned me for three months and fined me three hundred yuan. In December 2000, I went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa again, and I was detained for more than 150 days. I was beaten mercilessly at this police station for 20 minutes. Four policemen took turns beating me because I was on a hunger strike. At the end of 2001, I was detained for more than two months since I distributed Falun Dafa truth-clarification material. After 25 days of a hunger strike, I was then released. Five days before the Chinese New Year in 2002, I was abducted again while distributing Falun Dafa truth-clarification material. After five days of a hunger strike, on Chinese New Year's Eve, they let me go. On March 25, 2002, I was deceived and arrested from home, and I was sentenced to seven years in prison. In May 2002, I was sent to the fourth prison. In prison, I was mercilessly beaten twice while sending forth righteous thoughts. I was tortured for seven days in a 'transforming class,' and was beaten numerous times by Guan Gengshan, Pang Zhiyi, and Zhao Aiguo. The head of the prison sub-division did not care. After reporting the persecution to him, he didn't respond at all."
Mr. Yang Yanxiang, 36 years old, from Daxinzhuang Village of Xiaoxinzhuang Township, Xinji City, was illegally detained in the third sub-district of the fifth prison district. The details of Mr. Yang's persecution are as follows: In November of 2001, Mr. Yang happily learned about and started to practice Falun Dafa in prison. He did not change his mind and continued to practice Falun Dafa even when he was severely pressured from many sources, many times. On October 5, 2002, Mr. Yang was detained in a guardroom for 15 days for to passing along Falun Dafa materials. His punishment was to stand for 109 days because he did not write a guarantee statement. Every time a person is confined to a guardroom, it means that the person's prison term will be extended for two more years. Mr. Yang's firm faith in practicing Falun Dafa was a considerable source of alarm for the authorities. Although he didn't finish reading Zhuan Falun, he cultivated very well. Out of nearly four thousand prison inmates, Mr. Yang was the only criminal offender who firmly practiced Falun Dafa while in prison. On December 25, 1988, for committing a robbery, he was sentenced to the death penalty, with two years of a grace period for execution. He has been in prison for more than 15 years.
