Facts of the Persecution

1. [Jiyang County, Shandong Province] Police Arrest Sun Zhenshan, a Well-Respected Agricultural Technician.

Falun Dafa practitioner Sun Zhenshan, around 50 years old, is from Qihe County, Shandong Province. Mr. Sun is a very popular agricultural technician among the farmers from the eastern regions of Shandong Province. The police arrested him again on December 5, 2004. The Public Security Department in Jiyang County is planning to intensify the persecution of Mr. Sun. He is now being held in the Jiyang Detention Center for an indefinite period of time. Mr. Sun is a very accomplished agricultural technician.. For years, he has been hired by vegetable farms in Jinan District. He is a well-respected figure in the large eastern countryside areas of Shandong Province.

2. [Mengyin County, Shandong Province] The Persecution Experience of a Practitioner

At the end of 1999, Mr. Yan Jikui, a Dafa practitioner from Mengyin County, Shandong Province, went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. He was taken back to the local Yinmeng Hotel. Three people, Yuan Zhenhai, Liu Yubao and Yi Yongtao, poured cold water on Mr. Yan's body, grabbed his hair and threw him against an iron bar. They also beat and kicked him. In the spring of 2000, Mr. Yan came back to his hometown, Tanbu, and there, two people, Tian Yongzhong and Zhang Minglei, beat him so severely that their belts broke into several pieces. Mr. Yan was forced to attend a brainwashing session for half a year and had to pay six thousand yuan for the session himself. At the end of 2002, a group of seven or eight people led by Gong Xuefeng and Xu Gang broke into Mr. Yan's house and started to beat his family members and his 12-year-old child. Afterwards, they brought Mr. Yan's whole family to the local town administration building's yard. They were bruised all over their bodies as a result of the brutal beatings, and it took more than half a month for their bruised and swollen eyes to heal. In the fall of 2002, when Mr. Yan was on his way to the local town market, Bu Fanwei and Cao Shuzheng arrested him and took him to the local public security station. There, Mr. Yan was hung from a basketball goal for more than 28 hours.

3. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Practitioner Zhang Guoli Is Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

In the early morning on May 28, 2004, the police arrested practitioner Mr. Zhang Guoli from the Jinzhou District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province, because he was giving out truth clarification materials. Later, police officers fabricated some documents and sentenced him to three years in prison. Mr. Zhang is now being held and persecuted in the Dalian Penitentiary. He used to be a worker at the Jinzhou Textile Factory (this factory has been renamed the Jinda Groups Company). In April 2000, Mr. Zhang was arrested because he went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. The Xianjin Public Security Station of Jinzhou District then brought him back. A police officer by the name of Hou Zhonghua demanded 4,680 yuan from him, but he was unable to pay that amount. Qiu Datong, from the Public Security Branch of the Jinzhou Textile Factory, then forced him to write an IOU for 4,680 yuan. Then he was detained for 15 days. In July 2000, the Public Security Branch took Mr. Zhang to the Dalian Drug Abuse Rehab Center, and there, he was detained for 40 days. After he returned home, he was asked to pay 2,300 yuan for his detention, but he refused. As a result, the Public Security Branch confiscated his ID and employee salary card, and has not given these documents back. On May 24, 2001, the Xianjin Public Security Station of Jinzhou District arrested Mr. Zhang for no reason. He was then illegally detained in the Sanli Detention Center of Jinzhou District. One month later, Mr. Zhang was sentenced to 2 years in prison, and there was not even any official seal on the sentencing paper.

4. [Diaobingshan City, Liaoning Province] Practitioner Yu Xuewen Is Arrested and Sentenced the Same Day

On February 19, 2004, practitioner Mr. Yu Xuewen from Hongfang District, Diaobingshan City, Liaoning Province handed out some truth clarification materials exposing four officials, Zhang Mingyuan, Liu Tiejun, Zhang Xiu and Guan Yuejun. These officials had tried to stop pay raises for practitioners. Almost one year later, on the morning of January 7, 2005, police officers arrested Mr. Yu while he was on his way to work because he had exposed their wrongdoing. They first sent him to the Hongfang District Public Security Station. Later on the same day, the National Security Brigade of the Diaobingshan City Public Security Department took Mr. Yu to the Tieling Penitentiary and sentenced him to one year in prison, without following any legal procedures. Mr. Yu's wife now lives alone. She has difficulty walking, as she injured herself when she jumped from a building trying to escape persecution for practicing Falun Dafa. She was then fired from her job. Mr. Yu's wife doesn't have any source of income and there is no one to support her.

5. [Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province] Practitioner Zhao Shuying Is Arrested

The police arrested practitioner Ms. Zhao Shuying from Wei County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province on December 21, 2004. The Xuanhua Public Security Department of Zhangjiakou City has been detaining her at the Xuanhua Detention Center. In October 2000, Ms. Zhao went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong and was arrested on Tiananmen Square. The police officers in Beijing beat her brutally. They slapped her face and hit her body with thick wooden sticks. Her face, back, and thighs turned purple as a result of the torture. Later, local public security staff took her back to her hometown and detained her in the Xihe Town Council Building of Wei County. She was handcuffed to a chair for two consecutive days and nights. In July 2001, while Ms. Zhao and another Dafa practitioner were at the Nan Train Station in Beijing, someone tipped off the police that Ms. Zhao was not carrying her ID with her. Police officers then arrested her, and she was detained in the Wei County Detention Center. In the center, Ms. Zhao was persecuted so brutally that she almost lost her life. She was only released when she was close to death. Later, she was forced to leave home to avoid recapture and continued torture. She was placed on the authorities' wanted list. Ms. Zhao's 8-year-old daughter, Zixuan, had no one to care for her, so she had to live at a relative's home. On December 30, 2001, while Ms. Zhao was reading Zhuan Falun on a train, the passenger sitting in front of her reported her to the police and she was arrested again. However, she escaped at the Nan Train Station in Beijing, with the help of her righteous thoughts. On January 1, 2002, while Ms. Zhao was on a train going to Beijing, she was arrested once more. She was sent to the Wei County Detention Center again. In the center, Ms. Zhao started a hunger strike to protest her arrest, and was tortured by being brutally force-fed. Two months later, her life was again in a very dangerous situation, so the detention center released her. Upon returning home, Ms. Zhao's physical health improved gradually as she studied the Fa and practiced the exercises. Four days later, a practitioner visited her, and they left her home without being noticed. When local town officials found out that Ms. Zhao was not at home, they dragged her mother, daughter and brother to the village council building and detained them there. Ms. Zhao's mother was slapped in the face so hard that she lost two front teeth. Later, two of Ms. Zhao's young brothers were also detained for 5 days, and were also brutally beaten. Sometime later, the practitioner who had helped Ms. Zhao escape from home was also arrested. That practitioner experienced brutal torture as the police interrogated her to try to learn Ms. Zhao's whereabouts. As a result, several of her ribs were broken.

6. [He City, Hebei Province] Practitioner Dou Pingjun Is Arrested

Mr. Dou Pingjun is around 50 years old. He is a teacher, who has received an "Excellent Teacher" award. At around 7:00 p.m., on January 19, 2005, Wu Xinghai, an official from Shiliting Town, He City, Hebei Province, along with Zhang Shaoling, Li Hailin and others from the Shiliting Public Security Station, broke into Dafa practitioner Mr. Dou's house in Caozhang Village and arrested him. They then took him to the Xingtai City Brainwashing Center of Hebei Province. After July 20, 1999, Mr. Dou was harassed many times. In April 2004, the same official, along with others, arrested him and took him to the Xingtai City Brainwashing Center again. However, only a few days later, he escaped from the center with the help of his righteous thoughts. In November 2004, Mr. Dou received more threats from Wu Xinghai, Zhao Meiying and others. He was arrested again and it is known that he is now suffering from a serious illness in the brainwashing center.
