Facts of the persecution
In early December 1999, Ou Zhiming, a retiree and resident of the Kunming Steel Corporation, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. On December 4 he made a gesture that looked like part of a Falun Gong exercise while he was in front of a Tiananmen Square monument. This resulted in his being taken by officers to the Qianmen Police Station. On December 6 he was sent back to the Kunming Steel Corporation Security Division.
He was placed under 48 days of detention, and then sent for forced labor. On January 22, 2000 he was sent to the No. 2 Forced Labor Camp in Yunan Province, to serve three years. He was forced to do hard labor for about 12 hours each day. During peak periods in the harvest season, it was over 16 hours daily, and even reached 20 hours per day at times. The police subjected the prisoners to bodily punishment and verbal abuse, and beat them if anything displeased them.
Wang Hongfa, a Falun Gong practitioner in Guangzhou Province, was a native of Hubei Province. He went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong together with his practitioner wife in June 2000. He was arrested, fined, had his pay docked, was re-assigned, and forbidden to associate with his fellow Falun Gong practitioners. He was detained at a brainwashing class, sent to forced labor, and subjected to all manner of other abuse and mistreatment under this persecution. Currently he is being detained in a brainwashing center in Guangzhou City. The center's administrators refused numerous requests from his family members to visit him.
