(Clearwisdom.net) Yu Shuqing is a 58-year-old woman from Acheng City, Heilongjiang Province. Before she started to practice Falun Gong in October 1998, she suffered from various illnesses. She had tonsil problems and whenever she caught a cold she would have a very sore throat. She also had heart disease, stomach problems, and many other illnesses. These illnesses caused her unbearable pain. After she took up the practice of Falun Gong, Ms. Yu set high standards for herself. Through studying the principles of Falun Dafa and practicing the exercises, her illnesses disappeared one by one.
Seeing the miracle of Falun Gong manifest in Yu Shuqing, her husband also began to practice Falun Gong. Two months later, his heart problems, cerebral hemorrhage, arthritis and other illnesses began to be cured. By the end of 1998, he had completely recovered.
After the elderly couple began practicing Falun Gong, they saved about 400 yuan in medical expenses altogether (the monthly income of an average Chinese worker is about 500 yuan). They were very happy. However, this happiness did not last long. On July 20, 1999, Jiang and his political group announced its formal ban of Falun Gong. The police around the country started mass arrests of practitioners.
Yu Shuqing's husband was a ruling Party member. The couple's work unit, the 711 Factory, held numerous meetings trying to prevent people from practicing Falun Gong. The Party secretary, Liu Yinglin, Discipline Committee secretary Fu Chengyi, Security Division staff member Wang Kaihu, and Retired Workers' Division director Zhang Wanyi tried all means to stop Yu Shuqing's husband from practicing Falun Gong. Under such pressure, he gave up the practice. As a result, his health deteriorated and he was often in a bad mood. The police from the Shancheng Police Station often harassed the couple, and monitored their every move. Yu Shuqing's husband had to endure tremendous pressure. Soon he developed cancer. Four and a half months later, in late January 2001, he passed away.
The second day after the death of Yu Shuqing's husband, the Shancheng Police Station informed her sister that they would come to arrest Ms. Yu because she continued practicing Falun Gong and was reported to police while distributing truth-clarification materials. Yu Shuqing's sister begged the police not to take Ms. Yu away. But the deputy director Liu Jiajun, kept pressing Ms. Yu to write a guarantee letter promising to give up Falun Gong. Under severe pressure, Ms. Yu wrote the guarantee against her will.
However, the persecution was far from over. Police officers from the Shancheng Police Station, Sun Baodong, Zhai Liancheng, Sun Xuezhuo, and Sun Yongxian took turns monitoring Ms. Yu. They also forced her family members, neighbors and daughter-in-law to keep watch on her. In this way, Ms. Yu was totally deprived of her freedom. She had to report to the police before she could go anywhere, and the police would follow her wherever she went. Under such a situation, she gave up Falun Dafa cultivation. Soon her old illnesses relapsed. Also because she was grief stricken due to her husband's death, she developed a mental disorder. Her friends, family and neighbors all felt very sad that a healthy woman was reduced to such a state due to the persecution.
The police not only persecuted Yu Shuqing, they also harassed her relatives. Her sister's family did not practice Falun Gong, however, the police often came to harass the sister. As a result, her sister had trouble coping with the stress.
In order not to bring any more trouble to her sister, Yu Shuqing left home and has been living in various places since last winter.
In April 2003, Yu Shuqing went to the Acheng City Labor Bureau to pick up her employee benefit card. There, someone swindled 2,000 yuan from her. She suddenly realized the importance of being a good person. Therefore she resumed Falun Dafa cultivation practice.
In the afternoon of April 15, 2004, Yu Shuqing went to Qinjian Village to distribute truth-clarification materials, when she was reported to police by local villagers. Ms. Yu is currently detained at the Acheng City Second Detention Center. She was later sentenced to one year of forced "re-education through labor."
After her arrest, Ms. Yu had some heart problems and lost consciousness several times. When her family went to visit her, they saw that she needed help walking. Her family requested that the detention center release her, but Director Ma said, "We didn't want to deal with her case, but the 711 Factory asked us to detain her. You have to talk to the factory."
Her family then went to the police department to request her release. Police Chief Tan Shun said, "Falun Gong practitioners are good people and they're different from criminals. We know detention can't change practitioners' minds. However, Jiang said we need to detain them as long as they do not write guarantees promising to give up Falun Gong."
Kindhearted people, you must have come to understand the nature of such a persecution. Please know that Falun Gong practitioners are wronged. Yu Shuqing practiced Falun Gong because she wanted to keep fit, and to be a good person, and she never interfered with anyone. Practitioners are painstakingly clarifying the truth, in the hopes that people can tell right from wrong and stand with the righteous. Let us work together to stop this persecution.
