Facts of Persecution

Zhang Shumei is a Falun Dafa practitioner in Zhucheng City, Shandong Province. After practicing Falun Gong, problems with her neck and a tumor in her uterus went away. After the persecution started in 1999, Zhang Shumei was fired by her workplace for practicing Falun Gong. Ms. Zhang was also detained at her workplace. The authorities held meetings to denounce her husband in public, and asked her husband to divorce her. Her husband started to have heart problems under the duress he was placed under. Their family was placed under great difficulty because of the persecution.

Ms. Liu Zhenfang is a practitioner in Huangchuan County, Henan Province. On January 12, 2004 (according to the lunar calendar), Ms. Liu and her husband (not a practitioner) were kidnapped by policemen. They were detained at Guangshan Detention Center. There are three children left at home, with nobody to take care of them. This has lasted for more than 4 months. During Ms. Liu's detention, the police guards brutally beat her. On April 26, the officials held a court hearing. Nearly 30 practitioners went to the court to send forth righteous thoughts. After three hours, the judge adjourned the session without delivering a verdict.

The authorities have been persecuting practitioners in Acheng City, Heilongjiang Province. Because of practicing Falun Gong, Li Xiuling was kidnapped, detained, and persecuted three times. Wang Weihong was also kidnapped and detained three times. Right now, her health condition is extremely poor, but the authorities are still planning to sentence her to three years of forced labor education at Wanjia Labor Camp in Harbin City. Bian Fusheng and Bian Yaping (father and daughter) were kidnapped around April 9, 2004 for distributing truth-clarification material. They are now detained and facing sentencing.

Dafa practitioner Chen Yufeng was kidnapped in July 2000 for going to Beijing to appeal. After she was sent to Longshan Labor Camp in Shenyang City, she was transferred to Shenyang Women Ziqiang School for further persecution. She was sentenced to Masanjia Labor Camp in late 2000. In May 2001, because of distributing truth-clarification materials, she was sentenced to three years in a labor camp. In Longshan Labor Camp, the police guards abused her and attempted to brainwash her. In late 2001, she was sent to the brainwashing center at Zhangshi Labor Camp and persecuted there for up to 40 days. In April 2002, she was once again forced to go through brainwashing for nearly one month. On November 18, 2003, Ms. Chen was sent to Masanjia Labor Camp. She was beaten and not allowed to sleep for 10 days and nights. After the beating, Ms. Chen had headaches, felt dizzy and nauseated, and was unable to eat. Every night, she was allowed to sleep for only one or two hours.

Liao Baoqing is a Dafa practitioner in Chibi City, Hubei Province. In order to avoid persecution from the local police, he left home for two and a half years starting in August 2001. His wife Ye Xin and daughter had a hard life at home. Mr. Liao's both parents also practice Falun Dafa. His father was once detained in a detention center and persecuted there for three months. His mother was detained for 15 days. On April 22, 2004, some people from the "610 Office" [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems] in Chibi City attempted to kidnap Mr. Liao for further persecution at Wuhan Brainwashing Center. Mr. Liao and Ye Xin did not submit. On April 28, the policemen went to harass Ye Xin again, saying they would forcibly take them away.
