Local street fairs are bustling year round, and a large one could draw tens of thousands of visitors. In recent months, following a series of free classes teaching the exercises in libraries and different public places, many San Diego Falun Dafa practitioners are actively making use of street fairs, parades and other outdoor settings to promote Dafa and to clarify the truth.
On May 16, 2004, a street fair in Escondido in northern San Diego opened up. It was one of the bigger ones in Southern California, with around 100,000 visitors according to past counts. Local practitioners applied for a booth well ahead of time, making use of this opportunity to introduce Falun Dafa and to clarify the truth to people passing by.
Six practitioners went to the street fair in Escondido. They took turns practicing the exercises, handing out materials and clarifying the truth. Many visitors stopped at the booth, admiring the practitioners' demonstration of the exercises. Some people began to learn the exercises on the spot and kept praising Falun Dafa's peacefulness and grace. Many people expressed that they had learned about the Jiang regime's persecution of Falun Gong in China. One visitor walked up to practitioners and asked, "Are you still steadfast and persisting?" When getting an affirmative reply from the practitioners, he gave us his thumbs-up. Many more visitors requested materials about the practitioners' teaching the exercises in local areas, and many more people expressed that they wanted to learn.
