(Clearwisdom.net, May 1, 2004) On the evening of April 27, 2004, the Ottawa Citizen Service Award Ceremony was held at City Hall. Ottawa Mayor Bob Chiarelli and nearly 20 city councilors presented certificates of appreciation to 153 individuals and groups to honor their voluntary and selfless contributions. Falun Gong practitioner Lucy Zhou received a certificate of appreciation in the category of "Humanitarianism."

In view of
- Falun Gong practitioner Lucy Zhou's spirit of selflessness demonstrated in rescuing innocent Falun Gong practitioners persecuted in China,
- Her perseverance in introducing Falun Gong exercises and its universal values to community, schools, universities and media,
- Her legal actions to stop torture, crimes against humanity and media which had been extremely one-sided and continuously instigating hatred,
the Ottawa city government issued a "Humanitarianism" certificate of appreciation to Ms. Zhou. Lucy Zhou was also nominated for the Outstanding Ottawa Citizen award.
Two years ago, the Ottawa City government initiated this annual award ceremony. The ceremony coincides with Canada's National Volunteers Week, and its purpose is to honor individuals who have made selfless and volunteer contributions to the community.
Ms. Lucy Zhou is the second Falun Gong practitioner recognized during National Volunteers Week. On the evening of April 21, in the award ceremony on the 3rd anniversary of National Volunteers Week, which was held in the Nepean West Community Center, Cindy Chen of the Canadian Falun Dafa Association received an Ottawa Community Award for her outstanding contributions in the area of promoting health, safeguarding human rights and building a peaceful community.
