Facts of the Persecution

--Hengshui City, Hebei Province used several hundred thousand Yuan to purchase a device for systematically censoring the Internet. It is mainly used for screening Minghui and for bugging almost all of the cell phones in the area. The police recently had a meeting, in which they put together a list of 10 practitioners who are marked as needing to be closely watched. On February 5, 2004, practitioners in Hengshui City Mr. Sun Shengliang, Ms. Liu Hongluan, Mr. Kang Yanxiang, and Ms. Chen Yujun were sentenced to three years of labor camp. Mr. Ni Xuebing and Mr. Xiao Hui were sentenced to one year of labor camp.

--In Sanhe City, Hebei Province, Falun Dafa practitioner Zhang Yuxia's husband (who is not practitioner) has had 300 Yuan ⁽¹⁾ withheld from his salary every month, and his employer threatened to dismiss him from his job. This mistreatment caused him tremendous mental burden. The "610 Office" ordered security office worker Wang Qingdong to force Ms. Zhang Yuxia to turn in her Falun Dafa books, and write a "guarantee statement" ⁽²⁾. They called her home day and night, sent people to watch her, and prohibited her from leaving her house. On September 29, 2002, several police officers abducted Ms. Zhang, took her to the police station, and then sent her to a detention center. The next day, they sent her to a labor camp. In the labor camp, police guards took turns trying to brainwash her. They did not allow her to sleep for three whole days, forced her to sit on a small stool, did not allow her to call home, deprived her of daily necessities, and even limited her toilet use.

--Facts surrounding the use of torture inside the Jilin Provincial Women's Prison:

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Tian Xiulu talked with fellow practitioner Ms. Diao Shuanyun in her work area, and as a result, was locked in a small cell for a day. Ms. Tian refused to work in protest of the unlawful treatment, and was then tied to the "dead man's bed" ⁽³⁾ for seven days. Falun Dafa practitioner, Ms. Liu Xia was locked in the small cell for 13 days because she practiced the exercises, and was on hunger strike for nine days. Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Meng Xianli was locked in a small cell for four days because she did the exercises.

--On the evening of February 14, 2004, under the instructions of Village Secretary Li Liansheng and security guard Ma Xuemeng, more than 20 young men who had been deceived by the false propaganda abducted Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Wu Chaogang in Hui County, Henan Province while he was passing out truth-clarifying materials. They beat him up in the Village Printing Shop until he passed out, then they poured cold water on him, tied him up, and forced feces into his mouth. These young men beat him up from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m., then sent him to the police station.

--Mr. Tong Jinfu from Xinbin County, Liaoning Province is 55 years old. After practicing Falun Dafa, his stomach disease was cured, and the tumor that had been on his neck for 30 years disappeared. Since July 20, 1999, police from the Yongling Substation came to his home on many occasions to harass him and ransack his home. They abducted him and brought him to the substation many times, and sent him to the Xinbin County Detention Center twice. Inside the detention center, police tortured him with force-feeding. He went on hunger strike twice in a month to protest the illegal detention. He was bed-ridden the second time he was on hunger strike and almost died. Police were afraid to take responsibility for his death, and let his family take him home. After being home for just a few days, police came to harass him again. Despite his weak condition, he had to say goodbye to his mother, who is in her 70s, and his wife who is ill, and become destitute and homeless in order to avoid being arrested at home. No one knows where he is right now.

--Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Hou Lihua is in her thirties. She was abducted and brought to the Aimin Police Station in Mudanjiang City for passing out truth clarifying materials in November 2001. She was inhumanely tortured in a number of ways. She was force-fed hot chili soup and mustard oil, and was suffocated with a plastic bag over her head. She had her hands cuffed behind her back and on an iron chair ⁽⁴⁾, while her feet were shackled. Her hands were pulled backward and her legs were pulled forward, and then they put heavy metal chains on her body. She has been sentenced to three years of labor camp, and is serving her time in the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Center. There is nowhere for her family to appeal for her.

--Evil deeds of police in Zhangjiachuan County, Gansu Province:

First, they extorted Falun Dafa practitioners' money. For example, there are three practitioners in Mr. Zhang Run's family, and they had 24,840 Yuan extorted from them over the past four years. Secondly, they torture practitioners both mentally and physically. In July 2000, practitioner Ms. Wang Meiying went to Beijing to appeal and was detained upon returning home. Police used a torture method called "carrying a sword on the back" ⁽⁵⁾ on her, and they hung her up by her cuffed hands ⁽⁶⁾, beat her, and so on.

--Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Ning Shaoheng from Panjin City, Liaoning Province went to Beijing to validate the Fa in August 2001. He was arrested on Tiananmen Square and sent to the Fangshan District Detention Center in Beijing. After being detained for 47 days police guards told him, "If you tell us your name and address, we will release you immediately." He answered, "I do not trust you. Let me see the release document." The police guards had a document made and promised to buy him a train ticket home. So Mr. Ning told them his name and address. The police guards immediately revealed their true nature. They took the document back and locked him up. The police guards sentenced him to three years of labor camp and sent him to the Panjin Labor Camp.

(1) Yuan: the Chinese currency; the average monthly pay of an urban worker is 500 Yuan.

(2) "Guarantee statement": a statement to declare that he or she is remorseful for practicing Falun Gong and guarantees not to practice Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again associate with any Falun Dafa practitioners.

(3) "Dead man's bed": the four limbs of the practitioner are stretched out and tied to the four corners of an icy-cold metal bed. The practitioner cannot move at all. Neither is he allowed to get up to eat, drink, or go to the bathroom. This treatment could last anywhere from several hours to more than a dozen days. This type of cruel torture causes severe damage to practitioners both mentally and physically.

(5) "Carrying a sword on the back": the practitioner's hands are tied behind his back with one hand over the shoulder and the other hand against the lower back. The police then apply a great deal of force to pull the two hands toward one another and handcuff the two hands together.

(6) With both hands cuffed, both feet suspended or only toes touching the ground, one is hung onto a basketball support or the beam from one's cuffed hands. The hands and arms will soon become numb.
