Facts of the Persecution
Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Liu Baoyu from Wangxian Village, Taihe Town, Heishan County, Liaoning Province, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa in 1999, and was arrested. After she was released and returned home, she was harassed by the local police and village leaders. Ms. Liu was detained by the village government office for eight days in October 1999. On October 8, 2002, the police wanted to arrest her again, and as a result Ms. Liu was forced to become homeless in order to avoid being arrested at home. On May 21, 2003, the police secretly abducted Ms. Liu and beat her up. She was covered with wounds, and her head was swollen. She was locked in the county detention center that night. Later, the police extorted more than 1,000 yuan from her family, but still refused to release her. Ms. Liu was sentenced to five years of forced labor, and was sent to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp.
Since July 20, 1999, the Kuiwen District Court in Weifang City, Shandong Province has unlawfully put Falun Dafa practitioners on trial, even those who do not fall within its jurisdiction. For instance, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Yue Xia from Weicheng District was given a 12-year sentence by this court, and is now being persecuted in the Jinan City Women's Forced Labor Camp.
Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Sun Shiquan from Suizhong County, Huludao City, Liaoning Province was detained and beaten just for reading Zhuan Falun in a motel in 2000. On June 20, 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa, and was abducted and brought to the Huairou County Detention Center. He was stripped, doused with cold water, and beaten up. Mr. Sun was subjected to two tortures called, "carrying a sword in the back," and "riding an airplane." His tormentors also put a plastic spoon between his fingers and twisted his fingers violently, resulting in his fingers being crushed and broken, with the bones visible. Later, he was detained in a number of different locations. Mr. Sun was sent to a forced labor camp one month later, and was tortured and subjected to brainwashing in the Huludao Labor Camp. Upon returning home in October 2001, the police still harassed him often, so he had to become homeless in order to avoid being arrested at home. Since then, his father, parents-in-law, wife, and son have endured unimaginable amounts of pressure and personal attacks from the authorities.
