Facts of the persecution
Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Ye Zhigang, a teacher at Fengcheng City's School of Health in Liaoning Province has been illegally held at a labor camp for over six months. He persisted in his belief in Falun Gong and was transferred from the Dandong Forced Labor Camp to the Benxi Forced Labor Camp. During the detention he was fiendishly tortured both physically and mentally. His blood pressure remained dangerously high, and he was at the brink of death, yet the labor camp refused to release him.
Daqing City Prison does not allow practitioners to meet with their families
Around 7:00 a.m. on November 9, 2004, supported by five sons and daughters, practitioner Guan Zhaoqi's 80-year-old father went to the Daqing City Prison office and asked to see Guan Zhaoqi. The prison authorities said, "Falun Gong practitioners' families are not allowed visits." The older man went to Deputy Warden, Wang Yingjie, who gave him the runaround. The family ended up spending nearly eight hours in the prison courtyard.
Another practitioner, Cheng Peiming, has been held for over three years. He contracted tuberculosis after suffering long-term torture. He vomited blood and was extremely emaciated. His mother, brother and sister went to the prison before it opened at 7:00 a.m. and waited until it closed at 4:00 p.m. His mother begged the authorities many times to be allowed to see her son, but they refused. Because of public pressure, the authorities took Cheng Peiming to the reception room after dark, but they dragged him away after 30 seconds, before he had even touched the microphone to speak to his family. His mother, brother and sister left in tears and returned home without talking to Cheng Peiming. Their home is over 4,000 miles away from the prison.
